This fall, the Office of Sustainability is facilitating service-learning projects with students in the Sustainability LLC! We had a blast during our first module last week at the Mount Vernon Community Garden. Students learned about the benefits of local agriculture, engaged in a sun-powered craft, and planted new native plants on the hillside.
Interested in volunteering at the MVC Garden? Our open garden hours are Mondays from 1-3pm, Fridays from 2-4pm, and Saturday 1-3pm - all are welcome!

That’s a wrap on the first week for the Sustainability Living-Learning Community!

This week, we welcomed our newest cohort of Sustainability LLC students to @gwuniversity and Merriweather Hall on Mount Vernon Campus.

The week was full of meet-and-greets with our partners at @sustainablegw , a visit to the ReUse market, a private tour of the Eckles Library, exploring the Foggy Bottom farmer’s market, cooking demos with our friends at @gw_globalfood and more!

A moment for our pollinators at the Mount Vernon Campus Garden 🪏🌻⛲🦋. Did you know that Swamp Milkweed, native plant to D.C. and pictured in the first image, is a primary larval host plant for monarch butterflies?! These small but mighty native plants are part of an effort to revive the population of Monarchs across the East Coast and are present all over the MVC Garden! Check it out the next time you stop by The Vern and volunteer at the garden on Mondays and Fridays from 10:30 - 11:30! 💚⛲🪴 taken in Mount Vernon Campus at the George Washington University by @gwmvc
