Designated by Congress to build the Global War on Terrorism Memorial on the National Mall to honor those who have served in our Nation's longest war.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Join us as we build a place to welcome our warriors home.

Since 2015, a small group of veterans, military families, and devoted citizens has worked together on a simple but powerful mission to ensure that every individual who served in the Global War on Terrorism is honored with a permanent Memorial on the National Mall.

Today, we took the next step by unveiling the initial design concept to the world. Thank you to our Honorary Chair, President George W. Bush (@georgewbush), for helping us mark this special milestone.

In May 2025, a group of veterans and supporters from @TeamRWB left San Diego carrying an American flag that once flew over Helmand Province in Afghanistan. They didn’t stop running until they reached the future site of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Thirteen runners covered 3,006 miles in 16 days, passing the flag hand to hand, day and night. Along the way, they raised $1 million for veteran health and wellness.

We’re proud of our Johnny Micheal Spann Ally for capturing the experience in their new documentary, No Off Days. Add it to your weekend watch list. It’s streaming for free on YouTube now. Link in bio. by @gwotmf

We are proud to share that artifacts used and donated by our CEO, Michael Rodríguez, and Non-Uniformed Veteran Fellow, Enrique "Ric" Prado, have been deemed nationally significant by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino. They will join the Museum’s permanent collection in Washington, D.C.!

During Hispanic Heritage Month, this recognition is especially meaningful. Preserving these artifacts and the stories behind them ensures that Latino service and leadership in the Global War on Terrorism are remembered as part of our Nation’s history. by @gwotmf

This Veterans Day, our Chief of Staff, Jennifer Ballou, will join GWOTMF Ally, @NationalVMM, for its Veterans Day Ceremony in Columbus, Ohio.

Jennifer, a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant and Gold Star spouse, will take part in a moderated conversation alongside JoAnne S. Bass, the 19th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, and Zachariah Collett, a U.S. Army combat Veteran from Ohio.

All three will explore our Nation’s 250 years of military service and progress, while also recognizing the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

You don’t have to be in Columbus to be part of it. Set a reminder to tune in to the livestream on Wednesday, November 11, at 11 a.m. ET. Learn more via the link in bio. by @gwotmf

Within 15 days after September 11, 2001, the CIA-led Operation Jawbreaker became the first American deployment in the Global War on Terrorism. Named in its honor, our Operation Jawbreaker Fellowship Program recognizes the service of both uniformed and non-uniformed personnel. It also conveys a unity between military and non-military personnel around our sole mission of building the National Global War on Terrorism Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Our current Fellows represent Gold Star families, Gold Star children, uniformed Veterans, and non-uniformed Veterans. Nahsir Knight-Bell, Enrique "Ric" Prado, Stephen Ross, and Scott DeLuzio spread our message, connect us with new allies, and unite Americans around the purpose of the Memorial.

On this date 25 years ago, the President announced that the United States had begun military action in Afghanistan in response to the September 11 attacks, marking the start of Operation Enduring Freedom and our Nation's longest war.

We honor the selfless men and women who answered the call to serve and the families who continue to carry the weight of their sacrifice. They fought terrorism across the globe to ensure that our country remained free.

Their service and courage will never be forgotten. by @gwotmf

On September 30, the last American troops left Iraq. With their departure, the 12-year Operation Inherent Resolve mission came to a close, ending another chapter in a war that has shaped an entire generation of Americans.

For more than two decades, service members from every branch and every corner of this country answered the call to serve in Iraq. Thousands gave their lives. More than 31,000 were wounded in action during Operation Iraqi Freedom alone, and countless others returned home carrying wounds, some you can see and many you cannot.

The end of the mission in Iraq does not end our obligation to honor those who served. That is why we are building the Global War on Terrorism Memorial on the National Mall.

Twenty-five years have passed since the attacks on September 11, 2001. In the weeks that followed, the Global War on Terrorism began, shaping the lives of millions who answered the call to serve.

We attended several events commemorating this anniversary, including a ceremony at the White House Ellipse for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation's Steel Across America Tour. The tour carried a World Trade Center steel beam from Ground Zero to Washington, D.C. A few days later, we gathered at the Horse Soldier Statue overlooking Ground Zero.

We also joined One Flag Forward, led by our Allies at wear blue: run to remember and Team Red, White & Blue. Participants carried a single American flag 250 miles from New York City to Washington, D.C. The journey concluded at the future site of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial, where GWOTMF President and CEO, Michael “Rod” Rodríguez, served as emcee.

Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost and honor the generations who answered the call. We will never forget. by @gwotmf

Earlier this month, @mnveteransmuseum celebrated the grand opening of its new facility near Camp Ripley in Little Falls, Minnesota.

GWOTMF President and CEO, Michael “Rod” Rodríguez, was a special guest and delivered two presentations during a day of reflection honoring those who answered our Nation’s call following September 11, 2001.

The new 40,000-square-foot museum preserves more than 25,000 artifacts and generations of stories from Minnesotans who served our Nation. Congratulations to the Minnesota Military & Veterans Museum on its grand opening!

In recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day earlier this month, members of our team attended Face the Fight Night at the @GrandOleOpry, presented by @Humana, an evening dedicated to raising awareness about veteran suicide prevention.

@wefacethefight brings organizations and communities together to break the stigma surrounding mental health, expand access to support, and reduce veteran suicide. We are grateful and will continue to stand alongside others committed to confronting a crisis that deeply affects our military and veteran community. by @gwotmf
