Gampaha Wickramarachchi University Researchers have spotted critically endangered “Clubtail” at Malwathu Oya Valley after 48 years.
A team of researchers led by Mr. Niwantha Kanuwana has recorded the evidence of Cyclogomphus gynostylus or commonly known as Transvestite Clubtail on 25th September 2024 at the Vayawa Ulpatha tank bund of Bellankadawala cascade - Malwathu Oya river basin. The DSLR camera shot of Mr. Madhawa Athukorala has spotted the species and the research team has verified with the support of IUCN consultation based on morphological features. Findings were presented at the 4th Citizen Scientists Symposium on Conservation and Ecology held on 25ht January 2025 at Colombo organized Young Zoologists Association
The last record of Cyclogomphus gynostylus with location and the count has been in 1976 and no such comprehensive record was made for last 48 years, which highlighted this finding very important to prove the existence of sp.
This finding further reveals the importance of protecting forest tanks like Vayawa Ulpatha in the Bellankadawala cascade without damaging the natural habitats of this kind of critically endangered sp.
The researchers acknowledged the support extended by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ranjana Wickrama Senewirathne and the Researcher Mr. S.D.A. Gunathilake and A.L Peris from International Union for Conservation of Nature, (IUCN), Sri Lanka Country office, Pelawatta, Battaramulla, (WP), Sri Lanka #nature #dragonfly #malwathuoya #srilanka by @gwuimsl

In our world, animals are not maimed or killed to create a medicine that will enable human beings to live. In our world, skill, discipline and age-old knowledge is synthesized to create the problem-solving concoctions and decoctions that will cure people. Get to know how this is done. Get to know how our systems don’t simply provide a medicine but rather deliver a cure. People with knowledge of these systems will be the most sort after over the next two decades.
Be one of the fortunate ones that have those skills.

For a large part of our history, our indigenous systems have been stratified and linear allowing but few to understand them. This has had a two-pronged negative. On the one hand it has prevented an increase in practitioners and on the other, reduced the number of people who stand to gain by making use of them to improve their health. With this turnkey degree, you position yourself at the enviable point from which you help the world to get to know our methods and more importantly use our methods that are so sorely needed by a world reeling under health crisis after health crisis for which conventional science does not have a cure.

The art and science of indigenous medical systems is steeped in understanding the bounty of nature and the means to harvest it to cure sickness without damaging either nature or patients. With the world rapidly going downhill through the unsustainable use of resources and directionless science, these systems will become the lifesavers of a sustainable future. Skills you acquire through this system is crosscutting and multidisciplinary. They will be the most sort after by the time you graduate.

The entire culture of conventional medicine attempts to keep people chronically using drugs. Even if there is a cure, it is more financially profitable to keep someone continuously using medicine. Our medical systems are different. We CURE people not keep them on a leash to milk them for all the money they have. Learn how to cure our country of disease not keep it in a constant state of sickness, debilitation and doubt

200 years ago we had less than 250 diseases. Now we have over 10000!
Conventional science has been unable to solve these problems.
Our unique indigenous medical systems can. The world knows this and will want it – in their hundreds, in their thousands.
Our entire tourism trade is set to boom not only for pleasure but for purpose – health and smiles.
