Introducing Jason Bulluck to GXP Beta Chapter: A Visionary in Art and JusticeJason Bulluck is a conceptual artist, writer, and teacher based in Washington, DC, whose work deeply engages with themes of liberation and critical theory. Drawing inspiration from the Black Radical Tradition, Indigenous studies, and Buddhism, Bulluck’s artistic endeavors span sculpture, installation, digital provocations, performance, and writing. His recent projects have challenged dominant narratives by inviting audiences to engage with his thought-provoking pieces on multiple levels. The Beta Chapter of Gamma Xi Phi celebrates MLK Day by honoring the art activism that helped make this holiday possible.In 1980, Stevie Wonder released “Happy Birthday” not as a celebration, but as a protest in song and a call to recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a national holiday. The music became a movement. Concerts, petitions, marches, and the power of popular culture kept the pressure on lawmakers and the public.In 1983, MLK Day was signed into law. In 1986, it was officially observed nationwide.This is the power of art.Music did not just reflect history.
