Turned 27 yesterday. Went to one of my favorite breakfast spots. Played a decent round of golf w/ two of my best friends. Spent a few hours chopping it up with my family. Just over a year ago, we said goodbye to one of the most genuine souls I’ve ever met, Julius Holder. This man was a brother to me and I have never experienced more pain than when I heard of his passing. It didn’t seem real at the time and it still doesn’t some days. I’ll forever be grateful for the countless memories and the nonstop laughter with my guy.

Why am I posting this now? I feel like we’re reminded often about how fragile life really is. Everyone is a victim to chaos and freak accidents at some point. I read a chilling statistic recently… if you’re in early adulthood, you’ve already spent the majority of the time you’ll ever spend with your loved ones. Ever. That really puts things in perspective. Your parents are starting to get old. Your best friends are scattered around the country. Everyone seems to be permanently busy. It’s okay to work hard, of course, but don’t overdo it. Your best friends want to see you. Your parents want you to visit. You might have to be the one to initiate the plans and reunions, but it’s worth it.

I guess the main takeaway here is that life is fragile and time seems to move exponentially faster with age. Be present. Appreciate the moment. Have a long phone call with your parents. Buy that plane ticket to see the homies. You deserve to be with the people who make you feel like yourself, and they probably miss you too.
