OK… I’ve been having a hard time trying to put how I feel into words with this but here goes nothing.These collection of songs are something I’ve been holding onto for quite some time, 6 years to be exact (2020, nigga?! DAMN!). A lot of variables played a part (mix and mastering sessions, technical difficulties) but the BIGGEST one of all was the feeling I got from it.Between 2020-2026 I felt happy but afraid, relieved but remorseful within the creative process. Many of the topics within this project contain a lot of issues, such as Black Joy, Racism, Police Brutality, and even innocent deaths that result from street culture or racism that people of color (Black People specifically) have either dealt with or are currently dealing with it to this day.I was happy that I was able to create something for my people in which they could find emotions and situations that were relatable towards one another. Also within that, my people could gain a sense of pride in what it means to be Black. However, I started to feel afraid because what if this just goes over peoples’ heads? What if I’m not relatable enough? What if no one feels how I feel? What if I’m not the person that should be giving out this message?I felt relieved because it was another body of work that I was proud of. Then the remorse started to kick in and began to feel ingenuine… Started to just become doubtful in the entire project itself and eventually I just tucked it in The Vault, away from the world.Last year was the first time in ages that I was able to go through The Vault and listen back to a lot of songs, including these. After further review of the music with some close folks that I hold near and dear to me, I was able to come to the conclusion that the messages in these songs are JUST AS IMPORTANT if not more than the music that I’ve previously released or anything that I intend to release in the near future.I always try to make sure I’m using my voice for good when it’s my time to speak up about certain things that pertain to people in my everyday life and in my environment.
