This weekend I celebrated the completion of a phase of life and made space for the beginning of another. I wore a crown for three days and, with seven brilliant and beautiful women who love me, I laughed, cried, played, sang, danced, shouted, and reflected on who I am, who I have been, and who I will be.
•
At one point a little girl ran up to me and asked if I was a “real princess”. I showed her where my friends were sitting and told her how they had gathered to celebrate me - that they were /treating/ me like a princess this weekend so I dressed like one. But I confided that the crown didn’t make me any different, it was just a reminder of how I am awesome and honored and loved, always.

She looked skeptical, walked away, and returned to hand me a flower. She told me she knew I was a real princess no matter what I said.
•
And I was like, “I mean, ok! You’re right I AM a princess. And a queen, and a boss. But my friends are too, and YOU are too, and you don’t need a $5 crown headband from Michael’s to show it!” (I think I said “We all got crowns!!!” in case she was a baby Swiftie but I don’t think she got the ref.)

In retrospect, I think the previous night’s tarot reading had the best words for what I was trying to express to her: You already are what you seek, or what you envy. You already are. You are.

P R O U D A S F V C K of this team & our 1st place win. #1 #bschoollife #wefancy #etc BUT!!! Literally AS we presented abt novel treatments for T-N breast cancer (incidentally, disproportionately affects women of color), the House passed a bill to slash coverage for this condition. And so many others. They're trying to extort astronomical amounts from the poor and sick, esp women, for basic care, to give big tax cuts to the wealthy. It is infuriating and disgusting.
