Coach Doba was one of a kind. A straight shooter that let you know exactly where you stood. He was always smiling and would call me “Hummer.” It may have been because he couldn’t pronounce “Hamza” but I told myself he thought I hit people as though I were a Hummer 😅.

I never really saw Coach Doba lose it. When we lost a game, defense gave up a bunch of points or we got beat, he never lost it. He was always optimistic. That’s one thing I try and emulate and a characteristic I feel he showed me more than any other coach. It’s just football. Life’s much harder and if you can smile at life, you can smile at football. I had no idea his wife Judy was battling cancer the whole time he was teaching me these lessons.

I’m thankful for Coach Doba and what he has done for the Abdullah family. We love you Coach Doba! Go Cougs!

Husain Abdullah reached the NFL dream but at the height of his career, he chose to step away, realign his priorities and focus on his faith. He went on to perform Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca and after returning to the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, he made history with a memorable prostration after a touchdown.

He stopped at Ta’leef Collective to share his story with Chicagoans and talk about his book, Mecca to Medina.

It’s always a blessing to be surrounded by like minded individuals.

Last week I was blessed to attend the Muslim Athlete Summit. I enjoyed meeting Muslim Athletes, Executives and Professionals.

Watching organizations collaborate to build a better tomorrow for Muslims who venture into sports is a beautiful thing.

Shout out to:

Companions Alliance
Siraat Strategies
Amal House
Muslim Campus Life

In 2015 and 2016 my brothers and I brought Muslim Athletes and Entertainers together to build brotherhood and sisterhood. I’m glad to see this initiative being picked back up and carried forward.

May Allah continue to bless the efforts and the Ummah.

Ameen 🤲🏿

Happy Birthday to my inspiration and brother @habdullah39! Husain has always had my back. He had my back, back when we was sponsored by “The R in R &B” as @inspiredbynickgraham would say 😅.

I pray that this is the year that you get closest to Allah.

Alhamdulillah for everything.

Through it all, you’ve kept Allah first and been my number one reminder of Allah and my reminder that Allah loves us and we have to continue the work that He commanded us to do. I appreciate your patience with me and your willingness to include me in your plans. I pray that they are in line with Allah’s plan and He rewards you for taking care of not just your family but our family and especially me. You pick me up when I’m down and thats a lot of picking up. I pray that you are handsomely rewarded in this life and the next with the best of blessings, the best of companions, the best of circumstances, the best of gatherings, and the best of what Allah has for you.

I love how you always know who and where the Muslims are and you’re always doing your best to connect us to Allah—the ultimate connection. May Allah reward you for your leadership. Happy Birthday and in sha Allah we get together soon! May Allah accept. I love you! by @habdullah39
