Stand at the edge of the sea for five minutes. 🌊
Your shoulders drop. Your breath slows. Something ancient inside you , quiet and knowing , finally exhales.
This isn’t imagination. It’s biology.
Blue spaces , oceans, rivers, rain on a window, a fountain in a courtyard , activate your nervous system’s safety response. Stress hormones fall. Attention restores. The part of you that’s been bracing... lets go.
We call it blue space research. I call it remembering something we’ve always known.
We evolved beside water. We are mostly water. Of course our bodies respond when we return to it.
This is why a water feature isn’t decoration. A courtyard fountain isn’t a luxury. A workspace with a water view isn’t a perk.
They are biological signals. You are safe here. You can think here. You can breathe here.
Biophilic design isn’t about making spaces prettier — it’s about designing spaces that speak to what the body already understands.
What was the last water space that stopped you in your tracks? 👇

Join us for a thought-provoking webinar with @cellard1, a leading voice in environmental psychology. Grounded in research and rich with real-world insights, this session offers valuable perspectives for anyone interested in the science of how environments influence experience.

In his previous work Colin has focused on the importance of agency in architectural and urban design. Generally, he has argued that we favour settings that facilitate our desire for control.

In this #webinar, he will review this argument, but also discuss the desire for surrender. How the experience of awe, for example, arouses the feeling of small-self and connectedness. And how these two states—agency and surrender—may participate in a relational dialectic. In doing so he will consider the implications for the design of environments in which we can flourish.

Join us on:❤️

🌟 We are excited to welcome Oliver Heath to our Mind-Body-Space Global Symposium this summer in #Amsterdam (6-10 July)!

Oliver is a renowned interior designer and sustainability advocate, celebrated for his innovative approach to biophilic and regenerative design. His work emphasizes the importance of creating interior spaces that not only enhance aesthetic appeal but also promote health and well-being.

As the founder of @oliverheathdesign, he specializes in integrating natural elements into interiors, demonstrating how these elements can significantly improve mental and physical health. Oliver's projects exemplify a thoughtful consideration of how our environments can foster a deeper connection to nature, enhancing overall occupant well-being.

His insights into #BiophilicDesign reveal how our surroundings can positively influence mood, productivity, and health. Through engaging lectures and workshops, Oliver empowers designers and architects to rethink their approaches and create spaces that promote sustainability and life.

Join us on Wednesday to hear Oliver’s transformative ideas on biophilic and regenerative design, and discover how interior environments can support a healthier, more harmonious relationship between people and nature.

Humans did not evolve inside buildings.
For millions of years, our nervous systems developed in constant relationship with natural environments:
sunlight, vegetation, water, changing seasons, and living ecosystems.
Yet today, we spend nearly 90% of our lives indoors.
Often in environments dominated by:
• artificial light
• sealed air
• hard surfaces
• and little connection to living systems.
The consequences are not just aesthetic.
Research in biophilia, neuroscience, and environmental psychology shows that exposure to nature can:
• reduce stress hormones
• restore cognitive attention
• strengthen immune response
• improve mental clarity and emotional wellbeing.
This is why biophilic design is not decoration.
It is not simply adding plants to a space.
It is a design approach grounded in human biology.
Because spaces are never neutral.
They either support life
or slowly disconnect us from it.
The future of architecture will not only be sustainable.
It will be life-centered.
And biophilic design is one of the bridges.

🌿 We are excited to feature @srobinson_architecture as our keynote at the Mind-Body-Space Global Symposium this summer in #Amsterdam (6-10 July)! 🚤

Sarah is a profound author, professor, and architect in our global community. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on the dynamic interactions between the built environment, our body, our psyche, our social fabric, and other forms of life.

As an Adjunct Professor at Aalborg University and a lecturer in the NAAD Neuroscience applied to architectural design program at IUAV, Venice, Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her teaching. She has also served as the founding president of the @Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture's board of governors and actively advises various organizations committed to life-centered design.

Among her notable works, "The Architecture of Resonance: From Object to Interaction" presents a transformative approach to thinking and designing, shifting focus from abstract formalism to creating dynamic, interactive fields of engagement. It articulates resonance as a model and metaphor for our interactions with our environments, highlighting the interdependent relationships that occur between people and their surroundings.

Sarah explores seven specific types of resonance in design, supported by theoretical insights and practical examples. By seamlessly blending architecture with cognitive science, neuroscience, environmental psychology, and social theory, this book is essential reading for all of us.

Sarah’s presentation on Tuesday July 7 will align beautifully with the theme of establishing a new paradigm in architecture, based on the values we already implicitly share in the evidence-based design community.

Join us in Amsterdam to engage with Sarah’s profound ideas and be part of a transformative conversation about the future of architectural design.

“What moved me most was not the knowledge…
It was humanity “
#Jennie shared that she didn’t feel like a student.
She felt seen.
As a whole person.
With her voice.
Her background.
Her emotional landscape.
Inside our 12-week Certification in Biophilic and Well-being Design, we don’t stand above.

We’re designing buildings…
but we forgot to design for people.

Most projects optimise:
⚡ Energy
📐 Efficiency
📊 Metrics

But ignore:
🧠 The brain
💛 The nervous system
🌿 Human wellbeing

And that’s where the real cost lives.

Last week in Dubai, at PropTech Connect, with over 5,000 people shaping the future of real estate 🌍

I moderated a panel on amenities & branded solutions—and while ROI was a big theme, we intentionally expanded the conversation.

✨ From return on investment
✨ To return on health
✨ To return on life—and future

We spoke about:
• Community as a real asset
• Multidisciplinary co-creation from day one
• Evidence-based design as a value generator
• And moving beyond sustainability and well-being as checklists

Because ticking boxes is not transformation.

The future lies in designing places that:
• Truly support human wellbeing
• Create long-term portfolio value
• And contribute positively to the planet

Spaces that don’t just meet standards—but elevate life.

We planted a seed 🌱
And I’m excited to continue the conversation with those ready to go further.
