POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hi 👋🏻 I’m Rebeca, founder of Habitat Matter. I’m an architect, I’m fascinated by materials, have a soft spot for quiet spaces, dimmed lighting and love time in nature.

Habitat started back in 2019 with a simple goal to find the coolest, most innovative, and sustainable acoustic materials and make them more accessible to designers in the US.

Over the years, I’ve come to believe there’s no shortage of good materials, just a shortage of access and awareness. Habitat Matter exists to help bridge that gap, connecting designers with products that deserve to be seen, specified, and used. If you’re new here, welcome! I’m so glad you found us 🙂 by @habitatmatter

Grown, not manufactured. 🌱

Our @mogumycelium acoustic wave tiles are made from mycelium and hemp, inspired by the soft, sculptural feeling of hills covered in fresh snow.

They’re a beautiful alternative to conventional acoustic materials, made through a low-energy process that transforms discarded agricultural waste fibers into striking, sculptural panels that absorb sound. by @habitatmatter

A workplace design we keep coming back for inspiration 🐉. For @bessemer.venture.partners New York office, @amentaemma developed a design concept rooted in movement, fluidity and connection to the cityscape.
We worked with the team to bring that idea to the ceiling through a series of custom curved @impactacoustic baffles, creating a continuos, flowing element that connects the different spaces while helping manage sound in the open workplace.

💡 Material insights

Did you know wool felt is one of the oldest textiles we have? 🐑

Wool felt is made with heat, moisture and pressure that lock curled wool fibers together. No weaving, no melting. The result is rich, soft, textured wall coverings and panels that absorb sound, resist odors, regulate humidity, and are self-healing, so you can pin into it.
Wool felt has a reputation for being expensive. It doesn’t have to be. We love working with Interior Felt out of Toronto, whose wool felt shows the material can cost less when you look beyond your usual sources. by @habitatmatter

Name a project more wholesome than this 🥹🌳
We loved working on this one with @lothropassociates for @canterburypubliclibrary, where acoustics were built right into a reading tree for story time.
