This forest is being "thinned". I love this place. I've picked mushrooms here for years. Walked this forest through some of the best and worst times in life. Thinning brings new growth and I'm hopeful this forest will benefit.

I'm thankful to have been able to come here again before the thin the rest of the hillside.

They are still here. They just require a lot more work to get to and find. But it's always worth it.

Today was good. I ventured into the woods (solo) which I don’t often do. It was nice. The drive was peaceful - me, the dog and the radio. Venturing into the actual forest solo took a little courage - and faith in the gps. But I did it and it was magic. I challenged myself to find new spots today and not go back to my usual spots - saving them for later in the week. But something happened when I was out looking. I gave myself 5 minutes in each spot I selected to see what happened. Some were total failures, producing nothing. One had a few and then one was a shirt full of mushrooms (I left my basket in the car thinking there wouldn’t be many in 5 minutes!). To my surprise, there were lots. I picked for 5 more minutes and headed back to the car thinking - 5 minutes is all it takes sometimes to change the day, change your mind or give you the space for something magic. So when you’re feeling blocked or frustrated or just in the need of inspiration, give yourself 5 minutes, lean in and see what happens….you might just find what you’re looking for. From one island to another. It’s wild how they can be so different but feel so similar. Life is smaller, quieter and slower on the island. A time to recharge, forget what day of the week it was and invest in quality time with loved ones. Thank you for letting me slow down, smell the flowers, play in the sand, swim in the salt water and hunt for shells for hours. No matter what the circumstance you always looked at the bright side, the silver lining in it all. While it was shorter than we would have like, our time as a married couple was such a silver lining! Thank you for loving me the way you did - an unconditional, unwavering and deep love. Today would have been 4 years - and I can only imagine the good times we could have continued to have. I know you watch over me. Alaska you are the best. Words don’t seem to do last week justice. I am still grinning ear to ear thinking about all the fun we had tromping through the wilderness catching so many fish, the jokes, the smelly suburban rides and the countless memories that were made. To think last year was so good - how could we do it again? Well, I’d say we did it and I can’t wait to go back. My cheeks (and fingers) still hurt and it was totally worth it. What a year 2023 has been. The winter in Colorado, getting laid off in March, coming back to PDX for the summer working my first freelance gig and now - taking a break from the wild work world to reset and recharge. …. ……. …. …. I’ll be on Sabbatical until November. I look forward to wading the rivers of Alaska with some top notch ladies, watching the sunrises and sunsets 🌅 in Hawaii with my brother, his lady and the 🐐, watching Billy 🎶 and spending lots of time in the 🌲 foraging 🍄 and the 🌊 for 🦀. What a fun weekend. After years of wanting a pack basket and months of waiting for this weekend - it’s done and I LOVE IT!!! My fingers are sore and back is tired but my heart is so full.
