✨What an incredible day celebrating Windrush Day last week! ✨ From start to finish, Hackney was filled with music, memories, and community spirit.We kicked off at @hackneycaribbeanelders, where viral @djagonline spun iconic tracks for the residents, followed by show-stopping performances from Howard and Daisy—who even got Windrush Commissioner Rev. Clive Foster @clivefosterwc on his feet! 🎶The energy continued into the evening at Hackney Town Hall for an unforgettable, intergenerational celebration. Highlights included:🎂 A very special ‘Happy Birthday’ for our new Windrush Lead, Cllr Jacob Cable @hackneycable.🎤 The powerful ‘Rising Tide’ project, featuring songs and poems by @jermainjackman and the talented pupils of @theurswickschool.🕊️ A moving minute’s silence led by the newly-knighted Sir Patrick Vernon @vernon_patrick.🎸 A lively reggae showcase curated by BRAFA founder Leon Leiffer, featuring legendary artists who took us right back to 1986.A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, shared their stories, and made the day so meaningful. .🍚🌴 RICE & PEAS 🌴🍚Cooked by young author + chef Joylen Teixeira 👨🏾‍🍳Recipe by Mama Gem Regina White, Victoria Ward, Hackney 👵🏾💚More than a dish.
