Hello friends in Estonia! Anyone interested to join this monthly projects with different kits delivered all the way from Korea? You will get to try new things for sure new materials, new techniques, and new culture. 🇰🇷 All you need is a needle 🪡 and some threads 🧵
All materials and tutorals are prepared by @chaedamjung and I am being a workshop organizer in Tallinn, one of their international locations.

It is a yearly subscription and monthly purchase is not provided as the preparation and logistics get a bit out of hand. It’s a special (and super flexible as they offer video if you can’t make it offline) workshop that deals with traditional materials of korea. And a nice way of promising for a creative year learning and new things as the different kit will be there for you every months.

The Hatch app is to make special imaginary creature that associates with the person you describe together with the chosen egg.
AI will help you to imagine what is growing in your egg, just like how we used to imagine things when we were once yong.
(And the egg can actually be used as a small storage in real 😉)

This project is developed with my old belief that every objects becomes more special when it holds your own unique story.

우리가 작은 아이들이었을 때는 상상의 동물같은걸 그리는건 어렵지 않은 일이었는데 언제부터인가 불가능에 가까운 일이 된것 같아요. 인공지능은 가끔 엄청나게 즐거운 상상력을 선물해주기도 해요.
누군가를 (자신도 좋고!) 떠올리고 달걀을 선택한다음 그 사람에 대해 설명해주면, 그에게 맞는 상상의 생명체를 만들어주는 앱을 만들었어요. 달걀에서 언젠가 깨어날지도 모르지!

Reconstructed images of my grandmother’s memory using AI, shown through a film slide projector

The earliest photograph I have ever seen of my grandmother is her engagement portrait. She was a rerugee who had walked 215 kilometers south to escape the war. There could be no childhood photographs for someone like her.

When I met elderly people in Estonia who opened their photo albums, pointing to faces and saying “this is so-and-so, and on this day we did such-and-such,” I began to wonder why I knew so little of my own grandmother’s early years. If she had such photographs, perhaps she too would have shared these stories naturally. Perhaps she wouldn’t have had to carry such profound longing alone in her memory.

Now that she can barely hear my voice through the phone, I conducted interviews through my mother, Hyesoon-grandmother’s eldest daughter and my own mother. Even my mother was hearing many of these stories for the first time. Some memories emerged so clearly they brought laughter; others had grown dim. My grandmother could no longer recall the name of her youngest sibling-the one she barely had time to call by name before they were separated forever. These memories, buried beneath a longing that could never reach even the edge of the border, feel infinitely tender. The faces of family members she hasn’t seen since she was fourteen have slowly blurred with time.

“I miss them. I miss them so much.” Listening to her voice over and over, I began to imagine the childhood she could never show me-her family, her neighborhood, the landscapes of her youth. Through Al, I creared images of scenes I have never witnessed, Though I know better than anyone that these are fabricated images, somehow I feel as if I have encountered her within these landscapes. Looking at the hazy, trembling faces of her family, I find myself hoping that the lives of these distant relatives-people I have never met, whose existence I can only guess at-were not filled with too much hardship.

Thinking of my grandmother, who has lived through an unimaginable expanse of time shaped by longing.

I’m happy to share that my solo exhibition “dialogue: Three quiet conversations with AI”
will open soon at HOP Gallery in old town Tallinn 💫

July 31 – August 27, 2025
Opening: July 31 / 17:00-19:00

The show brings together three works shaped through conversations with AI. Not commands, but exchanges—between human and machine, craft and code, memory and imagination.
