Join us for the very first event around the new Hafi table with Taiwanese poet and interdisciplinary artist Yu-Hsuan Wu.

American painter and translator Steve Bradbury writes: “Yu-Hsuan Wu’s poems illuminate her unflagging effort to compose a life that is deeply grounded—culturally, geographically, and spiritually—in the here-and-now.”

Through poetry, music, conversation, and play, Yu-Hsuan invites us to notice the poetry already living within us.

The reading will be in Chinese with English translation, followed by an intimate poetry-making workshop around our table, with conversation and shared reflection.

Is there a place or memory you find yourself returning to? Bring it with you for the evening.

Same wall, new art!!!

We will be having a series of rotating artists displaying and selling their work in our main room and our first artist is the lovely Saskia Lassmann. Saskia embroiders with bark, takes cool photos, and does an excellent job of nailing sticks to the wall. You’ll have to come on down here to see the full and finished pieces.

Here are some things Saskia has to say:

As the writer Herman Hesse puts it, a tree has something to say to us:

“Be still! Be still! Look at me! Life is not easy, life is not difficult. Those are childish thoughts. A tree says: A kernel is hidden in me, a spark, a thought.”

After 9 years of being abroad, the work I am now presenting at Hafi feels like a celebration of all that I experienced on my journey as well as my coming home. The smaller square canvases represent my travels. And the big circular canvas, that reminds some people of a clock, is about having put down roots in Vienna. It is about looking at the city I grew up in with new eyes and wonder, exploring ever new things and forming new friendships as well as celebrating the old. by @hafibooks
