What a ride this years been, the process tho?

Still learning to trust that, 🙄😬

So far, it got me on a main stage

So far, it’s been hard (no one said it was easy tho)

So far, I was right. The universe is an algorithm - what you put in you get fed back

So far, I’m a race horse @benmartinhair ❤️

So far, I’m still finding myself in all of this, even tho my friends have helped me fix parts of me I lost

So far, idk what I’m doing but I’m doing it 😆 that being said still mastering some of my craft that has yet to be mastered

So far, I’m still tired. But it’s different.

So far, so, good.

I always tell my home team if you wanna go fast, go alone. If you wanna go far, go together.

And I feel like, for the first time I’m not alone @matt.swinney

And if you know me, you know that kinda huge.

The power of your blonde journey

I can do almost anything with hair color, if you trust my process

And this client did!

Kept her hair safe using @redkenpro start to finish
Prepped with CAT between each lightener application
Treated with ABC between each shampoo step
She took ABC home to further protect her hair and keep it strong for the second round
And we didn’t lose one hair in the process (just a trim)

Listen to your stylist if you want your results faster

You might be a …..

Hahahaha this is all in good fun, but let’s relax with words like specialist, expert, or whatever if you’re only able to do one type of hair or one skill that’s not a specialty

That’s being good at one thing

It’s like “niching” another word that means nothing

You can only “niche” if you can do it all, and decide to funnel down into what makes you happy - and that still doesn’t make you a specialist

So, you can be a damn good hairdresser and never niche or specialize - but if you do make sure you got reciepts

Cause clients are sick of being catfished by folks who never step foot inside a class, or show, or people who can’t grow because they only do one thing …

Bruh ppl ask me for advice all the time,

And idk why, im out here just trying to stay alive half the time

But the one thing I can tell you, people aren’t gonna like you.
And that’s how you know you’re being authentic.

It’s been a long road for me

But, here I am.

Cause I did it anyway …. Maybe a couple pushes from ppl I love, but I made choices

I wouldnt change a single one; they all got me here

( my first symposium that I snuck into, worked the whole thing, didn’t get paid a dime, and I’d do it again. The first time I was asked to speak on the exchange stage. My second shoot I entered into contests. My last publication before lockdown. The last thing I got published in print before lockdown. The content I created with my soul dog while in lockdown:: he died right after we were allowed back into the world and it crushed me. Red carpet for my NAHA nomination ::I was probably my most mentally ill in this time bracket:: the first wigs I ever made from scratch. My last symposium I worked before I mentally quit. Yeah I said it, quit. And my last exchange program when I consciously quit.)

Lead me all the way to symposium main stage.

I said the quiet part out loud, and on stage

Because im over it and so are salon guests.

As soon as you put “specialist” or “expert” in your bio, I wanna see reciepts

Everyone is a blonde specialist, if they only do natural level 8 straight hair

Everyone is a curl specialist when they only carve curls and select the small group of people with the one pattern they can master

Everyone’s a color specialist when they cover the same level 6 with 50% gray with 6NN over and over

But for awhile there, no one wanted to do the work. They wanted to “niche”

And now that word means nothing.

Clients have caught on, they have tools, and they’re looking for actual hair artists. Spending is not down in fact is up every year in the beauty sector since 2020

WHERE clients spend money is what’s effecting you, and everyone

They’re tired of being catfished and over charged for a look that lasts a week or two, or a salon experience that cost them $400 but felt like $12 experience

So until you’ve mastered every level, hair type, and pattern in the realm of discipline you love; I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this

You’re not a specialist.

And that’s ok, because we’re all growing all the time and if you’re not growing, then it’s time to pass what you know to the next gen and move on

If this triggers you, pause. And ask why; because only you are in charge of your triggers

And guess what, there’s a way to be less triggered.

Become a specialist. Focus on your craft, master it.

Bruh no shade, I absolutely adore my clients and my salon

But I also love dopamine and adrenaline 😆

This is my fave clip, cause selfishly it’s all my fave people 🥰

What a ride this show was. To come home and try and explain it to anyone is beyond me, @lisadellapennariggs said it while we were in the thick of it: “I’m scared I’ll get addicted to this feeling”

Idc what your natural was, it’s what I get asked for the most

She wanted to look natural, but more vibrant, and blend her gray not cover for low maintenance

Instead of make it complicated I simply used @redkenpro shades eq 08C, the brown background kept it realistic but the copper tones made it bright

Even my client was like “damn this is exactly what I asked for”

Which always surprises me, what’s going on out there in these haircolor streets

On dry hair, full 20 minutes and prepped with @lorealpro metal detox, treated with @redken acidic bonder to finish taken in Charleston, South Carolina by @hairzillaa
