We got a lot of snow. After the drought we’ve been in, we’ll take it when we can get it. by @hal.herring

The myth of separation has wrought widespread destruction both for humans and nonhumans.

This is not a theological nor a ecological argument.

We are nature. We are animals - born hungry, vulnerable, and dependent on others lives.

In this episode of The Wild Lab podcast, Hal Herring and I get deep on the ramifications of this myth of separation.

And we ask the question: What might change if we lived as though we all were kin?

Hey, Montana! Right, Left, Center, wherever we land on the political scale, we have the chance to change the course of our entire nation for the much much better. Let’s pass I-194 and then watch with a cold beer, some homemade pickles and elk jerky to see who challenges it, thereby marking themselves forever as the fiendish pieces of cat dooky which they are but have been hiding. by @hal.herring

It ain’t all just sunshine and duck hunting and cutting firewood. Or writing or any one thing. $190 for a door latch assembly. And yes, I could have gotten it much more cheaply online but shipping was high and I didn’t want to put another big charge on a credit card. So I drove to NAPA , bought the real thing , cranked up the mountain goats and started taking stuff apart. With help in resetting the window from a neighbor who is actually a mechanic and knows how to fix stuff that’s broken by @hal.herring

Walter McClintock was on the US Forest Service Expedition of 1896, with the likes of Arnold Hague, Gifford Pinchot, John Muir and other luminaries of his time. The expedition was funded by Congress, ordered to get a close look at the new Forest Reserves and make recommendations for their management and use as well as identify any new lands in need of protection. The expedition moved on from northern Montana and what would become the Flathead Forest Reserve, the Blackfeet Forest Reserve - part of which would become Glacier National Park. McClintock stayed on, though, living with the Blackfeet, and was eventually adopted into the tribe. by @hal.herring

conservation column in the current issue of Field and Stream. As Master Sergeant Mad Dog Shriver once said on the radio when asked if he needed reinforcements against the NVA who had encircled his team, “No, no, I’ve got en right where I want em. Surrounded from the inside.” by @hal.herring
