Our beautiful hula legacy, Puanani and Leilani Alama. Every time we dance our hula, we are honored to represent them and our Kumu. We lost Aunty Lei in 2014, and until her last day, her life was filled with joyous times, music, and hula. Today, Aunty Puanani has been teaching hula for over 75 years, remaining in her Kaimuki studio, where her and Aunty Lei once shared Hālaus across the hall. Aunty Puanani is the last living judge of the first ever Merrie Monarch festival, where she supported her longtime good friend, Uncle George Naope. They are filled with so much wisdom and amazing stories, we are so blessed to be apart of their lineage as we hold each of them close to our hearts.

Hō’ike 28! 💜💚

Here are the wonderful faces and groups that make up our hālau, each one a special part of our growing ʻohana and the legacy we are so proud to carry on 🫶🏼
A heartfelt mahalo to the many hands who helped bring this hō‘ike to life, the families who continue to support our haumāna, and Soka University for providing such a beautiful space.
And to our amazing musicians, mahalo for sharing your time, talent, and mele with us. Your music brings our hula to life, and we are so grateful for you! and lastly Mahalo to our Kumu, without you none of this would be possible ❤️
