“The Party Has To Come To Me” was mostly about me rediscovering that i can in fact paint loose ideas and create the rough illusion of complicated textures like foil if i believe in myself and use my brain. it was an exploration of more bedsheets and in distorting spaces, though i think i have executed those things better in other places.
i have built a social life in which i see many people and love many people, but they mostly come to my house. my favourite things used to include going to a shows and throwing myself around, and going out to the club after work, dancing my ass off, getting up to go back in hungover the next day, and doing it all again. by @halbrd_

THERE IS REALLY NOTHING THE MATTER WITH ONE BUT TEMPORARY NERVOUS DEPRESSION (2025)

this painting was the beginning of a rising action of painting for me. i think it has changed everything i made afterwards. i was thinking a lot about “the yellow wallpaper” by charlotte perkins-gilman: that short story about the woman who loses her mind while being isolated to recover from an illness no one even believes she has. It’s great early feminist literature. I painted this undiagnosed but very much sick, somewhat recovered but probably won’t ever be normal. I have historically always kept myself from spending too much time clawing at the walls by pursuing a million curricular and extracurricular activities (not that that meant i did them well).
