just over six months ago, i ran a marathon!! 🏃‍♀️💨

going from being a swimmer to a runner was a jOurney. i started dabbling in running in 2020 when all the pools were closed (shoutout Zombies, Run! app!!), but picked it back up again to run my first @rundisney races (with my mom!) 10k and a half marathon back in 2024!

during that time, i learned about the Jeff Galloway method and it changed the game for me (if ive ever talked to you about running, theres a 100% chance i mentioned it). i feel so grateful to have met jeff at the marathon expo prior to his passing, i owe so much of my running accomplishments to his work (as do my shins!).

i never thought i’d run a marathon (in fact, i actively thought against it!) but something changed and i knew that my first marathon had to be the Disney one. my grandparents and mom spent many years volunteering for marathon weekend and it felt so full circle to be able to take part in it as a runner!

i cant thank everyone enough for all their support through my half a year of training!! shoutout to the west orange trail in orlando for all the long runs, julia reppel’s youtube videos for keeping my joints happy, fleet feet in michigan and florida for the shoes (only two pairs!) and all the gels (uncaffeinated please!!), my family for practically running a marathon of their own to see me during the race, and everyone who left me a little voice note to listen to during each mile!

the race went perfectly!! i laughed i cried i danced, and i only ever listened to one song in my headphones (shoutout pitbull!). if you know me, you know im a freak who just…. listens to nothing while running….

and finally shoutout to lightning mcqueen! i knew early on that he would be my inspo for my running fit and it was so fun! i even made sure to hit that finish line pose just like he does 🙂‍↕️😛 kachow!! by @haley.december

i completed my disney college program back in february and it was one of the most rewarding, terrifying, incredible experiences i’ve ever had🦒🐘🦛🐊🐆🦏

i spent six months driving real trucks on a real path with real animals and with real people on board and i wouldn’t change it for the world 🌱

to quote the final lines of every safari ride, “goodbye is far too sad and far too final so here in harambe, we like to say the swahili phrase Kwaherini which means Go Well. so go well my friends, go wild, and go make a difference out there!” 💕 by @haley.december
