Introducing the greatest tour manager in the world, Haley. In her own words:

A brief intro: I’m Haley Freedlund, and I’m Palaver’s tour manager. I work with the band once the performance contract is signed with a venue, up to when the first downbeat of the performance lands in the air and everything is packed up at the end of a concert. I’m working on logistics for travel, scheduling, staging, merchandise, housing, and morale. It’s a lot of hats, and I LOVE IT. I’m a tour manager / arts admin person by trade and have been working in related roles since 2016. My wheelhouse is large ensembles, which often means chamber music, jazz, avant-garde/experimental/new music, and worldwide touring. In addition to Palaver, I work with Roomful of Teeth (@roomfulofteeth ), The Westerlies (@westerliesmusic ), and Jazz at Lincoln Center (@jazzdotorg ). When I’m not touring, I’m a trombonist and vocalist who lives in Seattle, WA with my husband, and our rescue greyhound Green Bean Casserole.

What being part of Palaver means to me: the ensemble already knows this because I can never seem to shut up about it - I love working with Palaver Strings. It is consistently an ensemble that excels at sharing responsibility, having fun, being professional and kind, and bringing meaning and emotion to the music that they program each cycle. I am also challenged by Palaver in a way that I enjoy - there are a lot of puzzles to solve when it comes to touring a group that has a minimum size of 13 members, and is constantly working on a breadth of rep and with a multitude of collaborators. I came to Palaver through an introduction by collaborator Vuyo Sotashe, but there are lots of overlapping circles within my musical community and Palaver Strings, which makes it feel like a big, goofy family. I’m very happy here :-)

What I’m hoping to accomplish during my time with the org: Between Maya’s leadership as executive director and the buy-in from all of the co-artistic directors, it’s easy to feel a sense of commitment to the mission without playing in the ensemble. I care a lot about these people and what they’re doing, and I wanna make sure that everyone is happy and healthy and has the tool by @haleyfreedlund

still thinking a lot about switzerland especially, one of the coolest venues I’ve ever done a show in by far - Bâtiment des Forces Motrices in the middle of the rhône river - with on-water tunnels to get you between BOH and FOH!

💛 summer of love 💛

Ecstatically married Evan Woodle in our backyard on Sunday, September 6th, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Years spent grieving, months spent planning a new ceremony and reception, a whole season of turning over land with my family, turning our living room into a bunting factory, turning trays of herb salt and granola in the oven for party favors. There are lots of things to say and share (more soon for sure) but the central important thing is that our loved ones held us together and helped us make this happen when we were ready. I am so thankful to literally dozens of friends and family who helped build this wedding from the ground up. THANK YOU! THANK YOU UNIVERSE! BEST PARTY EVER 🎊🎉💛 by @haleyfreedlund

Worked hard and played hard in equal measure with @palaverstrings last month 🎻🥂🌞 NYC x2, VT x1, FL x3 by @haleyfreedlund

Five weeks with @jalcnyc complete ✅ I adore these sweet, funny, talented humans so much and had a great time trekking all over the country with em for a while. They’re still on the road until mid April, so if you’re in Florida, the mid-Atlantic, or New England, go see em and revel in their talent! 💖 by @haleyfreedlund

Time for a big tour push, where the days off will be few and far between, but I’m lucky to be traveling with great friends and will give myself a much slower summer break when it’s all over 🌞 Come to a show, or gimme a call and we can catch up while I’m gone. Love ya 💛👋🏼 by @haleyfreedlund

Slowly starting to explore #blackoutdiary again for the first time since my mom died. Thursday Jan 29 at 8pm, I’ll be performing improvisational sketches at Good Shepherd Chapel - two hymns she sang when touring with the Honeybee Quartet as a kid. I’ll be translating the vocal quartet to brass with Brennan Carter, Ray Larsen, and Tom Varner. Thanks to Steve Peters for inviting me to curate part of the 2026 NonSeq Series and inviting all the curators to share a bill ahead of our concerts this year. 💛
