Marlo— 🕊️🤍

There aren’t words sufficient enough for the love I had for her. “My best friend” doesn’t even come close. For nearly 13 years she was my constant. When I moved to Houston right after college — lonely, homesick, trying to figure out who I was and where I belonged — I rescued her, and she rescued me just as much. She became my family in a season when I had none close by.

Thirteen-hour road trips back home to Birmingham to see my family and best friends (that somehow became almost a once-a-month thing) — she was always down for the ride. Head out the window, ears blowing in the wind, curled up in the passenger seat, happy just to be with me. She was there through every season of my adult life. Every move to a new city. Every tiny apartment and new beginning. Every heartbreak she sat beside me for. Every joy she celebrated with me. She was woven into every chapter.

And what breaks me even more is knowing there were still so many chapters she should have been here to see. Like the moment when we finally find out our rainbow baby is on the way. Her curled up beside me during the months of waiting. Her meeting our God-given miracle for the very first time. Loving every minute of all the cuddles and family time spent at home. I always pictured her being part of that joy. She carried me through every miscarriage — she could read every emotion without me saying a word. She just knew. She always knew.

She was the one constant in all of my chaos. The one heartbeat that made every place feel like home. The one presence that loved me in every version of myself — the good ones, the messy ones, and everything in between.

Tonight, my house feels quieter… too quiet. I should hear two sets of paws tapping across the hardwoods, but now I only hear one. Just Moose. Thank God for Moose — Marlo was the best big sister to him and he absolutely adored her. But even with him here, something is missing. And that silence breaks me in ways I can’t even describe.

A piece of my heart is gone forever. She was everything to me. She was the kind of love that changes you, saves you, grows up with you. And she will forever be the greatest gift I ever didn’t know I needed. by @haleyhusk_
