This February feels different than any other I’ve known. Every year, February has meant CHD Awareness Month. a time of reflection and emotion for me. But this year, it also means something else. I graduate college. A milestone not many thought I would reach, and honestly, one I wasn’t always sure I would reach either. That reality has been sitting heavy on my heart in the most beautiful way. I feel overwhelmingly grateful. Grateful to be here. Grateful to still be dreaming. Grateful that in May, I’ll walk across a stage and receive a college diploma, something younger me never could’ve imagined. This is really an appreciation letter to the people who carried me here.My mom, who has been by my side at every doctor’s appointment. still holding my hand at 22, still reminding me to breathe, still making the scary moments feel survivable. My dad, my biggest cheerleader, who turns the smallest achievements into celebrations and never lets me forget how strong I am. And my brother, my best friend, protector, and constant. I truly hit the jackpot with him.Growing up with CHD teaches you early that you never know which milestone might be your last. Because of that, I never fully allowed myself to dream of graduation. It always felt too far away. But here I am, and not only do I feel blessed to have made it this far, I feel deeply content. When I reflect on my life, I don’t think about fear. I think about sunsets, laughter that hurts your stomach, and love in all the ways it’s shown up for me. If tomorrow were my last, my heart would be full, and that alone feels like a miracle. To my friends: thank you for making this life richer, for the laughter, the memories, and for loving me exactly as I am.This February, I celebrate CHD awareness but I also celebrate life, resilience, family, love, and the beauty of making it further than I ever thought I would. 🤎 by @haleyyryannn
