Once, as Jamie Foster Brown and I flew to ATL to interview Bobby Brown, he arrived with then wifey, Whitney Houston. What an interesting day...🥰 As I've shared B4, Whitney likely looked at me as that photo guy, but as she and I sat at the bar, I think she learned more about me. Who knew she'd later follow me over to a grand piano nearby? I played and yes... she sang! by @halfpint19702

It's so good to put your arms around someone you love, even if it's just moment. At a time when I was writing an article on gospel music's Cece Winans, I interviewed her via telephone. She was home near Nashville and I was held up in the News studio at WDAS radio station. Soon, it occurred to me that if I could get Whitney Houston to help me with the article's intro by saying something about Cece, that would be bomb! I made the request and minutes later my telephone rang. It was Whitney! The reason I share this tidbit of a story is just to give an example of how sweet Whitney was. She's Whitney Houston and here I come, bothering her with my little bag of #bS!😂 Whenever I'd see her, I always tried to give her something good...a good word, encouragement, but real talk and no #bS. Whitney is gone now, but she is not forgotten. So I celebrate her birthday still...💕 by @halfpint19702

When my little brother, Jamell, was born, his birth coincided with the family's move to a new home for our family. So my mammy gives birth and my siblings and I walk into a new home, looking for mommy's new baby. Why we immediately ran up the stairs and even searched under a bed for our new brother is still inexplicable. 🤣 But there he was in bed, a small bundle of dynamite!!! Today, he is a loving husband and father, a successful entrepreneur and owner of Small World Contractors, a Non-Profit to help others called Brothers Vision and just an all around good guy...Happy Birthday Jamell (my little brother) still... by @halfpint19702

Farewell to the peaceful yet powerful soul of Roberta Cleopatra Flack, who died today, according to published reports. She was 88. Most of us lived and loved her music over the years, right? "Killing Me Softly," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, and "Feel Like Making Love," to just name a few. Her duets with Donny Hathaway and Peabo Bryson are literally musical gems! Roberta Flack hosted a weekly syndicated radio show called "Brunch with Roberta Flack" from 1995 to 1998. She could not only play music, but she could discuss music with such intelligence and celebration regardless of artists, band or collaborations. In the radio regard, she really was ahead of her time. Nowadays, you can't avoid a celebrity radio show or podcast, but Roberta was among the first. Once, I sat in her dressing room and we talked for nearly an hour about her career and all else. She recorded a beautiful song called "Trade Winds." I told her that it was on the flip side of "The First Time..." and I mentioned that I couldn't find that song anywhere. She fixed me. "Well I have it and you're not getting my copy," she teased. 🤣 I once ran into her in NYC, during a birthday party for Aretha Franklin. Roberta was tucked away in a quiet corner. "Give me your telephone number," I begged. She did! 🥰 I will miss this great lady, but like so many, her music will live on...💕 by @halfpint19702

Years ago, Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, performed a full concert at an outdoor venue. By evening's end, she and her entourage exited the stage, leaving everything she had to give behind. When she arrived at her dressing room door, suddenly, she decided not to enter. Nearly everyone backstage became concerned as Ree Ree simply collapsed in a single folding chair next to the door. She sat there, slumped over... "Don't bother her," someone from her camp shouted to onlookers. And so, this moment, this shot, of Philly Eagles superstar QB chillin' on the floor, "Ree-Ree" relaxing, is well... a smoke well-earned! #Right? by @halfpint19702
