Story blocks

The first thing that strikes you when walking around Lisbon is the stark contrast between buildings in its suburban neighbourhoods.

You'll find an abundance of small, apartment blocks, each with its own character for the barrio.

Yeah that's me. You're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.

Recently, my girlfriend and I swapped the old smoke of London for the blue skies of Lisbon.

It dawned on us that we weren't truly making the most of London, and after lockdown, we set our sights on new horizons.

Now, over a year into this Lisbon chapter, I've been busy laying the foundation for a new life—embracing new hobbies, making new friends and learning the local way of ordering coffee.

Sadly this meant my beloved analogue camera has been quietly collecting dust on the shelf.

Instead, I've leaned more towards digital colourful shots either on a Sony Cybershot or simply my phone.

My new good friend @jfpeiter has encouraged me to post these images as it's a true reflection of where I am now. So, you might notice a slight course correction in the types of photos I share here.. but I'll still try and find the time for a good old-fashioned 35mm bnw photowalk.

So follow me as I explore this new chapter and find stories through a slightly different lens... @jfpeiter ;) taken in Lisbon, Portugal by @halfwayzone

There see my rolling...

As I reached the end of my roll.

My fav type of photography is capturing people in their most candid moments, like this spontaneous snap of two folks on a scooter, lost in their own world.

However, with my analogue, there's no zoom to hide behind. It means getting up close and personal, stepping into their moment. Then, it's all about sharing a smile and a playful nod of approval with my subjects—a silent thank you for letting me into their story.

Lately, I've been in conversation with my mate @jfpeiter. It hit me that, since moving to Lisbon over a year ago, I haven't shared any photos... Mainly because these have all been digital.

He encouraged me to start weaving these snaps into my feed from my next post.

The big question remains, though—do I convert them to black and white for consistency, or let the colours speak for themselves? I'm still mulling it over.

The Tate Modern popping-up through the trees like a scene straight out of a movie—beautifully framed.

This gallery became another one of my go-to escapes during those short lunch hours, providing the perfect mental break.

One of the best things about living in the UK has to be the free admission to most galleries and museums, making art and culture accessible to everyone.

It was a reminder that the greatest of the artists were just a stone's throw away, available any day I needed to step away.
