👋🏼 Hi — I always like meeting the people behind the accounts, so I thought I’d do a little intro. The short story is I’m a writer at heart and have made a living doing other things for a long time. I recently finished my first solo novel WHERE SHEEP MAY SAFELY GRAZE, and I’m querying it now. by @hallandodes

I’m fashionably late to the trend, but that’s kinda chic too, right?

WHERE SHEEP MAY SAFELY GRAZE - 85k, upmarket crime noir.

In Norris County, a place where steeples outnumber stoplights, the truth belongs to whomever is in charge. So, when a young mother’s death is ruled accidental by a long-time sheriff, no one asks questions. That is, until her grown son returns to his hometown decades later looking for answers. Now, as the new sheriff weighs whether to reopen the case, he must confront a transgression more dangerous than murder: a community that has chosen obedience over justice in order to keep the peace.

Inspired by a real cold case out of NW Iowa, this story is for readers who loved All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker and The God of the Woods by Liz Moore.

📘shifting points of view
📙layered timelines
📕moral complexity of power
📗Inheritance and certainty

The whole time I was reading The Guncle by @mrstevenrowley, I kept picturing a slightly older Jordan Gavaris as the main character Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP for short). Patrick is the uncle — and now summer guardian — of Maisie and Grant after their mother (Patrick’s college best friend) dies of cancer and their father (Patrick’s brother) goes to rehab. Spending the summer together in Palm Springs, GUP, Maisie and Grant all deal with their grief together and, at least for Patrick, heal and evolve in surprising ways. An endearing book that reads like a movie or mini series, The Guncle is an uplifting story about family, both biological and chosen, and the ways we are shaped and changed by them. by @hallandodes
