Just under a year ago, this was all just an idea. I had just wrapped up my first ever marathon and had only been running for a couple of months. Naturally, your mind tends to wander: what’s next? The Ironman.

I’d never lane swum before, hadn’t gone on a bike ride since Covid, and was a very new runner. So in early August I signed up, scared not only of what I was about to put my body through, but the things I would need to sacrifice. I procrastinated getting in the pool a ton, delaying the inevitable, facing my fear of being totally shit at something. I remember calling my mom after my first swim, asking her “how the fuck do you swim” after choking on water 25m into the pool. Going from not even being able to swim a single length, to completing the open water Ironman swim in just over 1:21, is something I am beyond proud of myself for.

The whole race was something I had literally been dreaming about for the past year, and it came and went so fast. A race that tests your grit and willpower from the first stroke was honestly some of the most fun I have ever had. The support I had from my parents, step-parents, brothers and step-brother, Ando, JP, Bartz, Danny, all the fellas at home. The DMs, the text messages, all the people tracking me. You are all the reason I got across that finish line this past Sunday, and I am truly grateful for every single one of you.
In terms of what’s next?

Haven’t thought that far ahead. Going to enjoy the rest of my summer and really try to let this moment sink in. Hard to grasp what I just did. I love you all. taken in Lake Placid, New York by @hallyfitt
