four years ago i sat across this same girl in the student center at chick-fil-a after our first few weeks of college. she texted me saying she’d love to “treat me to some christian chicken.”

thank GOODNESS i agreed.

we talked about all kinds of things, including her boyfriend whom she claimed “was the one.” i didn’t know how she could be so sure, especially with a whole four years of college ahead of them.

but here we are. you got the ring and the name to prove it 🤪

jer jer, it was truly such an honor to stand by your side on this beautiful day. you are all things pure, kind, strong, and loyal. your day shined so brightly ofJesus - just like you and jonathan. it’s been a privilege to watch you two grow and flourish, moving closer to Christ each day.

i’m so proud of both of you… for how you two have walked together, but more importantly, for who you are in Jesus. i love you lots girlie 💌 forever and ever your hype woman 🫵

a little preview of life right now post-athletic career.. say whaaat 🤯😅🥹

athletics brings so many good things, but wow… the transition from sports to real world hits hard. something goes from being your everything to nothing in the matter of a moment, and it’s not easy to digest.

i hope this silly video reminds you of a deeper truth that your life isn’t over just because one chapter ends. your story is only beginning. good things are coming so just keep knocking on those doors 🤍

thank you Jesus for the beautiful gift this weekend was. these people are chosen family and i can’t wait to spend all of eternity worshipping the Most High with them. i’m in awe of the doors that continue to open and the relationships that continue to grow.

dear younger me,

about this time 8 years ago you’re going to fall in love with a sport. you will take one stroke and start grinning from ear to ear because you will know in that moment you found the thing that sets your heart on fire. our journey will be a wild one. a pandemic, coaching changes, serious injuries that almost took the sport away, and coming close to hanging up the uni early because of past trauma and pain. some of your dreams in this sport will come true, but a lot of them won’t.

and that’s okay.

from the ashes of those broken dreams new ones will flourish. you will give a lot of yourself to this sport for a long time, but it will also give you a lot in return. i look at these old photos of us and i can’t help but tear up a bit. i know what that little girl in oak ridge after she stroked her first race will walk through. i see 14 year old me in the photo full of life and hope for rowing, but i also see the 22 year old who cried each day before practice senior year of college because she didn’t know if she could make it. she wondered if she was too broken to continue, too scarred to show up.

but we did it.

i’m sitting here writing to you now finished with the sport that stole our heart. we didn’t end because an injury forced us to and we didn’t end because we couldn’t get through it.

we finished well, hal.

we finished with fulfillment that comes from the One greater than any result or race, with love for our sport again, with best friends who have become family, and a story that i trust God will use in the right way at the right time.

i’m proud of you younger me, and i think you would be really proud of me too. we were born for such a time as this, and although this chapter has ended, the story is still being written. the King of all Kings didn’t fail us, and He won’t fail us now.

being an athlete is great, but being His daughter is so much greater.
