Hi everyone,
Fall has arrived and it's time to close up our summer cabin for the winter. This, our last week in Granby, was fun spending time up in Rocky Mountain National Park photographing the elk rut with my son Scott. We had a very cool sunset and fog in the morning. Lastly a couple of images of our Granby neighborhood as Fall colors set in.

Hi everyone,

I spent the last couple of days working on a new painting of an Osprey and fledgling in nest near Lake Granby. I've included my value study, drawing, and several in process images and the reference photo.
I've also added a few recent landscapes from around the cabin. Had a fun sunset last night. All for now. Dave taken in Lake Granby by @hammeldave

Hi everyone,

I made an early morning run up to Rocky Mtn NP on the hunt for a moose. I ended clear up to the Continental Divide on Milner Pass before I came across this lovely young lady. She was grazing in a meadow just above Lake Irene. She wandered down to the lake and that's where I left her in peace and took one last parting shot by the water. What a majestic animal.

Hi everyone,

I decided it was time to head up to Monarch Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness area this morning to see what kind of wildlife I might catch in my lens. Talk about a beautiful morning! I didn't spot any large mammels today, but hit the jackpot when I spied an Osprey nest on an island just off the shore. Up in the top of a large pine tree was a lone flegling Osprey. I watched the nest for quite a while, when finally one of the parents did a fly by.

Some other notables, were some Canadian Geese, some Double-crested Cormorants, a little Ground Squirrel, and a Migrant Hawker Dragonfly. Great stuff out there when you look around.

Hi everyone,

Here is a new painting based on a inspiration photo from Rocky Mountain National Park. The location is just adjacent to the Little Buckaroo Ranch Barn in the Kawuneeche Valley.

I've included the finished painting, value study, and some in process images.

Hi everyone,

I've got a new one a little closer to home than my last couple from Iceland. This is an image from just down the road near our cabin in Granby CO. This is a classic tractor from the late 50s to early 60s. It is a Massey Ferguson 35 and is still operational and in use. I loved the used condition of this tractor with it's fading paint, deteriorating seat and rust spots starting to show.

I've included the finished painting, value study, original drawing, the first wash, inspiration photo and I had to include this photo of our grandson, Wyman, as he collected a foul ball at the Rockies game this last week. As crazy as he was before he got a game ball, he's even more nuts about the sport now.

Hi everyone,

Back to Iceland with this painting. On our trip to Iceland we stayed at the Magma Hotel near the town of "Kirkjubaejarklaustur". Try and pronounce that one! Ha Ha. Right across the road was this beautuful pasture with several horses grazing. The back drop was just gorgeous. The horses were on this hill with the mountains in the background way off in the distance. It was all volcanic rocks, like most all of Iceland. We were so lucky to catch them with sun highlighting their manes while the valley behind was in shadow.

We both will never forget that moment in time. Deb says I can't sell this one. Hope you like this one.

Hi everyone,

From my Granby front porch studio, here is a new painting of one of the iconic church buildings in southern Iceland near Vik. This is the Reyniskirkja Church (circa 1929) that grabed our attention on our southern coast of Iceland tour. We stopped here and took a handful of photos. We saw numerous structures with the same red roofs and whitewashed walls throughout Iceland. This is a traditional theme for churches and civic buildings in Iceland. Great view from this church of the coast.

Included is my final painting, value study, view of the interior of church, view of the coast in this area and view of my porch studio in Granby.

Hi everyone,

I've just finished a new landscape painting from our trip back from Arizona this psst Spring. Here is a view of Ship Rock NM from a spot west of it and aligned with the cockscomb volcanic dike outcropping which radiates from the monument.

Hi everyone,

On Saturday evening I cheered on my niece's husband, Tim Porthouse, as he raced in the annual "Chase the Moon Enduance Run" in Highlands Ranch. This is like an Ultra Marathon to see who can run the farthest in 12 hours overnight from 7PM to 7AM. He is training for a future 100 mile endurance race in Great Britain in August. There were over a hundred entrants competing in the solo division. Tim was spectacular and ran the trails for 12 hours in the dark and came in 2nd place overall and 1st place in his age division (60-70 year olds). In total, Tim ran 61 miles in 12 hours. What an amazing feat. Talk about an Iron Man, he is the very definition. Well done Tim.
