Six Vienna-based sound artists have been invited to spend several days at Westbahnstudios, where they will compose or adapt a composition for the WFS system designed by the AESR Sound Projection Lab.

Cora Leli Hausch (she/her) is a sound and media artist, graphic designer, head of Moozak, and occasionally active in Echoraeume and XOK. She holds an MA in architecture from TU Vienna, exploring the relation between sound and space. As a coder, she contributes to ppooll. Her performances explore sound as physically perceived and states of matter between tension and discharge. © Tilman Porschütz

Christian Schröder studied fine arts, media art, and music in Vienna, Weimar, and Moscow. His practice explores sound and composition across media. Since 2010, he has worked as a sound artist in visual arts and as composer and musician in performing arts. © Anna Breit

Zosia Hołubowska is a Vienna-based artist, community organiser and researcher. Their projects combine sound, performance and textiles, engaging with queering ethnomusicological archives, healing practices and interspecies intimacy. In 2015, they founded Sounds Queer?, a collective at the intersection of electronic music, sound art and queer activism. © Ronja Kappl

Robert Schwarz brings together computer music, sound studies, and architecture to unsettle our senses and evoke vivid images. For over twenty years, he has investigated acoustic phenomena, focusing on the hidden and details that escape perception. © Anna Breit

Isabella Forciniti, a Vienna-based Italian sound artist, works across performance, composition, research, and innovation. Her music ranges from crafted arrangements to spontaneous improvisation. © Zofia

Jung An Tagen reflects on “experimental” as compositional systems offering unpredictable results, and “electronic” as an annulment of instrumental tradition and return towards aesthetic openness. © Milica Balubdžić

Thanks to Jonas Hammerer, Thomas Grill, Patrik Lechner, the AESR Sound Projection Lab and Westbahnstudios for making this happen!

Unfortunately no DJ this time.

Parken Wave Field Synthesis Special
in cooperation with the AESR Sound Projection Lab (Artistic Research Center, mdw)

Saturday 19.09.2026
Westbahnstudios
18:00-23:00

We would like to introduce you to a crazy spatialisation technique that has an almost eerie quality to it.
Wave field synthesis uses a dense array of loudspeakers to reconstruct a sound field instead of simulating it for one fixed listening position. So sound sources are not limited to the space outside the room. They can also be placed and moved inside it.
The system we will be working with, has been developed over the past three years at the mdw Artistic Research Center as part of the Applied/Experimental Sound Projection Lab. It is modular, open source, and currently set up at the Westbahnstudios with 192 channels.

6 local sound artists have been invited to develop a composition for this occasion.

Saturday 19.09.2026
18:00 - 23:00

Preysinggasse 5
1150 Wien

Space is very limited, so we would recommend to buy the tickets soon.

INVITATION TO JOIN THE WAVE FIELD SYNTHESIS LAB

A week of working with the Wave Field Synthesis system of the ÆSR Sound Projection Lab: 192 channels in the main room, 32 in the side room. Expect seminars on theory and practice, plenty of time for your own work at the system, and presentations over the weekend. You can work with fixed media or live input in WFSCollider (SuperCollider) and Max (SPAT).

It's the first time we're setting up the full system, so it's as much a test run for us as a course for everyone else.

Raviv Ganchrow (Institute of Sonology, The Hague) joins us as a guest. A collaboration between ÆSRL, ACME and the concert series @parken.or.liveinthepark , which will host a evening with the system on Saturday 19.09.

Places are limited (max. 8). To register, send a short description of your interest to Thomas Grill (grill@mdw.ac.at), by Wednesday, 9 September.

Jonas Hammerer @ moozak multichannel series #08 / 26.6.2026 18:00 @semmelweisklinik

Jonas Hammerer is a Vienna-based musician and sound artist working with synthetic, process-oriented systems for live performances, sound installations and collaborative works.

He studied electroacoustic and experimental music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he is currently working at the Artistic Research Center as part of the AESR sound projection lab, developing a modular multichannel system for spatial sound research and performance. He is also a member of kv.r., an independent venue and collective organizing experimental music shows in Vienna.

In his artistic practice he uses analog and digital sound synthesis as material and form-giving process, exploring instability and emergent behavior in which form develops without fixed compositional structures. He also realizes commissioned sound works and audio software for artists and cultural institutions.

Friday 12.06.2026 Wow! Signal Festival

Jonas Hammerer is a Vienna-based musician and sound artist working with process-oriented systems in live performance, collaborative projects and sound installations. His work explores instability, emergence, and the materiality of sound through digital and analog sound synthesis, interested in how form and structure arise from ongoing processes and internal system logic.

Day 1 – Friday July 11

Marcus Schmickler merges computer music, ensemble composition, performance and research. His multi-channel works have been performed on prestigious stages, creating unique auditory spaces. He explores techniques like Shepard tones and ring modulations, deepening his compositions through data sonification and otoacoustic emissions.
Schmickler taught at Bard College, at Calarts and at Robert Schumann Hochschule and IEM. His compositions have been performed by renowned ensembles worldwide.

The French sound artist and composer Eve Aboulkheir lives in Paris. In her compositions, installations and performances, she explores the creation of immersive environments and multi-sensory experiences. By combining electro-acoustic manipulations with field recordings and synthesised sounds, she creates ever-changing, ambiguous acousmatic landscapes.

Perfumer is a sonic dialogue that follows a set of evolving rules of metamorphosis, flux and extraction, while the single bpm tempo shifts, tonal blurring and unpredictable layering of the instrumentation suggest synthetic autonomy. Subsequent compositional relations unveil an eerie sense of kinship between the frequencies and the aether they inhabit.

Jonas Hammerer is a Vienna-based musician and sound artist working with synthetic, process-oriented systems in live performance and sound installations. His work deals with instability, emergence, and the materiality of sound and listening through the use of custom speaker setups.

Shilla Strelka hosts concerts in Vienna under the name Struma+Iodine, curates the Unsafe+Sounds Festival, is part of the Elevate Festival team of curators and active as a music journalist for various magazines. As Inou Ki Endo, she is filtering communal sounds and rhythms from the past and the present, drawing from techno, ambient, and noise.

Ciao Ciao is a DJ, Mash-up romantic and genre-defying record selector who blends certified dollar bin finds with sought-after gems from all decades of electronic music.
