LUCID.

From the inner vision of the extraordinary, Jennifer Massaux. Birthed from her contemplation asking, what is on the other side? When the illusion of the physical finally gives way, where do we find ourselves?

It was a gift to embody this feminine energy - drawn from the inspiration of mother nature and all of her grounded wildness.

Thank you Jen and big thanks to the extraordinary team who poured their own creativity into this piece.

Thank you to everyone who has shown kindness and goodwill. Because there is still some confusion I am putting this here. 🖤

It is saddening to see the extent some will go to, including the signal boosting of deeply harmful rhetoric against vulnerable communities for the sake of undermining Andrew’s messaging, my character and our relationship.

The posts, likes, and comments attributed to me that have been circulating in the past hours are demonstrably fabricated. I trust people will see them for the obvious falsehoods that they are.

I fully support trans rights, and justice, freedom and liberation for the Palestinian people. As the daughter of an immigrant family, it is abhorrent that racist, anti-immigrant rhetoric and Trump support would be projected onto my name.

A real tragedy to me is that these falsehoods seek to undermine voices (including my partner’s) that support these issues, and are willing to bring further harm to vulnerable people by promoting a false sense of consensus against them.

There’s so much hatred in the world right now, please use your voices for good.

Spent the evening in support of @ejaf and their global response to HIV. At a time when the current administration is cutting over 90% of USAID foreign contracts and 60B in overall US assistance around the world, nonprofits like this are more important than ever. Thank you for a spectacular night and for the work you are doing worldwide. 🤍

Ten years ago it was unheard-of for a company to advertise in mainstream media without retouching. Working as a model, I’d transitioned from teenager to young woman immersed in an industry where I’d become accustomed to viewing myself through the lens of these photoshopped images.

My eye became trained to see what others deemed beautiful and valuable. More often than not it was smoother skin, erasing birthmarks (I’m covered in them) and a smaller waist. Sometimes it’d be reshaping my nose, changing my eye color or even the shape of my eyes to make me look more or less Japanese.

Ten years ago when New York City was sprinkled with billboards of me in the first Aerie Real campaign I avoided the intersections where the images lived. I knew the concept was important and empowering but the ads mirrored back a more ‘real’ version of myself - a version I was only used to picking apart in the privacy of my own bathroom. It was not a version I wanted plastered in Times Square.

Regardless of your viewpoint on capitalism, media, fashion, models, influencers and the like, it’s hard to argue that we are not all impacted by the constant flooding of messages and images.

Modeling taught me how susceptible I am to taking external messaging and allowing them to shape how I perceive myself and what’s deemed worthy of love, belonging and connection.

In 2014, Aerie gave me the uncomfortable gift of beginning to pierce those perceptions - many of which ran deeper than my judgement of any physical attribute. Now, in 2024, I return to this industry with the opportunity to represent a company whose messaging I’m able to stand more fully behind. Perhaps because I’m able to sit a bit longer, with a bit more compassion, and question the notion that there are some aspects of self that are better kept in the dark. taken in Times Square, New York City by @hanamayeda
