Honored to share that my series The Seat of Time has been selected for ProfiFoto(s) @ Arles OFF during the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles 2026, with “Armchair NO.5” presented in the exhibition.

The exhibition, organized by ProfiFoto in collaboration with WhiteWall and Hahnemuehle, will take place at Les Murs Blancs gallery in Arles from July 6–12, 2026.

The seat of time This series documents abandoned sofas left outdoors, illuminated by flash at night. Developed from 2020 to the present, it traces objects that once belonged to the intimate interiors of domestic life now occupying transitional spaces between city and nature—under bridges, in vacant lots, among trees, or beside ruins—becoming presences that feel both familiar and estranged. The harsh artificial light renders them theatrical yet fragile, suspended somewhere between reality and illusion.
The use of flash is intentional: it disrupts the natural rhythm of day and night, revealing what has been overlooked by time and by sight. In the instant of illumination, these discarded sofas are no longer waste, but remnants of human desire, comfort, and aesthetic belief. The light does not beautify them; it restores their visibility—acknowledging their quiet persistence within a landscape often forgotten.
Each sofa carries a fragment of the past: ornate carvings, faded fabrics, exaggerated forms—once emblems of taste and aspiration. Now stripped of function, they stand as monuments to aesthetics that have shifted over time. Through photography, I trace how taste and beauty migrate across spaces and eras—how objects once central to everyday life drift to the margins, and how memory itself becomes material, exposed, and fleeting beneath the flash.
In these images, light becomes a form of remembrance—a brief act of looking, a quiet resistance against disappearance. by @hanbing1030
