Meet the Maker- I haven’t done this in quite some time, so I thought it was due.

My name is Dawn. I just turned 50. Yes a big milestone. I have been married for almost 30 years to my best friend. We have 3 kids. One is our 👼 in Heaven, and we have a 26 yr old son and 24 yr old daughter. Not so little anymore. I started crocheting in 2019 after having surgery and being laid off. Not having anything to do with my time, I needed something for my mental health.
We love to travel and spend time with our family and friends.

I love crocheting, and I love this community. I have met the most amazing people on here. They have been so supportive especially as of late through the loss of my father. 🫶🏻 Thank you to everyone.

I want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍁

There is so much to be thankful for this year, but most of all my new heart. I am beyond grateful for the gift of life and to be able to celebrate another Thanksgiving with my family.

I am grateful for everyone who has come to visit me here and who is supporting in some way or another. I am grateful for this amazing community. The outpouring of kindness and prayers. I am so grateful for my family. Without Ken, Nick and Brooke there is no way I could possibly get through this. Love you guys.

We may not be celebrating this weekend with the rest of you, but we will do our little dinner when I’m home.

With a new lease on life, I am very determined to get back my life. 3 years I’ve been in limbo. I know it involves a lot of work on my part and I’m here for it. Whether it is physically or mentally. Determination will pay off.

Mentally getting back into crocheting right away has been amazing for me. Crocheting just takes me somewhere else and not always thinking of my health.

Physically I need to wake up and decide I want to do this to get better and move forward and most importantly to get home. I miss my family so much.

Thank you to this community for all the love and support you have showered me with. Means so much. We have an amazing crochet community. Love you all 🫶🏻

❤️ A little life update. Life has been a rollercoaster the past couple of years as some of you may know. It started on Oct 17th, 2024 with me suffering a cardiac arrest. This led to my heart being damaged, and I was a very sick girl. We later found out I had Multiple-System Sarcoidosis. This was the cause of my heart being attacked, which brought on the cardiac arrest. I am so extremely grateful to my husband and kids for performing life saving CPR along with the amazing paramedics. After me being stubborn as usual, they did manage to get my heart started again.

Fast forward to Sept 18, 2026th. I got the phone call that changed everything. I was to be at the hospital in 2 hrs to get prepped for my new heart.

❤️‍🔥 On Sept 19th, I received my new, amazing, strong heart that is settling into my body so well. The dr’s are extremely happy with how I am doing. 🤞 Hope it stays that way, because I could reject the heart within the first year.

It has now been 2 weeks since surgery. Wow. Where did those 2 weeks go?

I am currently still in the hospital. It’s not quick turn around like most surgeries. That’s for sure. I am learning how to do things for myself again. Started walking, bike, stairs and arm exercises to keep nimble. It’s been a challenge with all the fluid build up. Very heavy feeling. I am learning all my meds and packaging them up myself. This is prepping me for home.

That’s a quick update. I wanted to thank all of you who have reached out. Means a lot when you’re here all by yourself.

As I am slowly getting myself back, I wanted to get dressed, but I didn’t have a way to carry my heart monitor around, so I whipped this little bag up last night to carry it. Now I can wear whatever and not have to worry about pockets etc. I think it turned out amazing.
