over the past 2 years I have been spending some time with the migrant palms in Scotland. I use the term migrant to describe these species because they are not native to Scottish land. they did not choose to reroot in Scottish soil yet they did. these species tell us what it means to belong whilst reaching out for the gulf’s stream to survive.
Over the past 2 years I have been planting multiple date seeds from Iraq next to these palms in the hope that the seeds would act as an extra source of warmth during the colder seasons. by @haneenhadiy

taamur invites artists, curators and researchers from the Middle East, North Africa and their diasporas to introduce their practice and become part of our growing network.
We are building new pathways for artistic research, residencies, exhibitions and cultural exchange in Scotland, with a particular interest in practices engaging with culture and ecology.
This is the beginning of a growing dialogue between Scotland and the MENA region bringing together practices, perspectives and relationships across both landscapes.

all disciplines are welcome.

Extract from Chapter 2: The Migrant Palms of Scotland
A writing from my masters thesis dedicated to the palms of Iraq and Scotland.

Arabic translation below.
