The last month and a half of my life has been a little wild…

On February 2, in the middle of an exam in OKC, my lung spontaneously collapsed. I ended up in the ER getting a chest tube placed between my ribs to suction air and fluid out of my chest cavity. Having a chest tube inside you is something that’s hard to explain… a lot of pain and not much moving. It finally came out February 5 and the relief of pressure and pain from the tube was immediate.

Three weeks later, on February 21, I was back home in Wichita about to leave to study when I felt a familiar sharp pain in my upper back and shortness of breath. I tried to convince myself it wasn’t happening again, but deep down I knew. Another collapsed lung. In the ER I looked at my x-ray and within a second I could see it. Chest tube #2… and after 55 hours in the ER they found the cause: a bleb (air pocket/cyst) on the top of my left lung that had been causing the collapses.

On February 24 I had VATS bleb wedge resection surgery. They removed the bleb and some surrounding lung tissue and stapled part of my lung to the cavity, and did a pleurodesis so my lung would stick to the chest wall and (hopefully) prevent this from ever happening again. The surgery ended with chest tube #3, but this time a larger chest tube. After all of this I have 3 incisions from surgery, 1 large hole from the last chest tube - a literal hole the size of a nickel, and 2 small scars from the 2 small chest tubes.

Two weeks after surgery I was back in class… practicing chest tubes on cadavers. Slightly traumatic after having three in the last month, but also kind of surreal to be on the other side of it. Experiences like this definitely give me a different perspective on what my future patients might be going through.

My family was by my side everyday and never left me alone for a second. Thank you for being the best support system💗Here’s to healing, good lungs, and hopefully never doing this again 🤞 by @hannah.weber34

One degree down, already chasing the next one

Graduating college 1.5 years early felt like hitting fast-forward on a chapter I didn’t want to end. Now, six months into PA school, I’m chasing a dream I’ve worked so hard for—but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss it. I miss the feeling of walking across campus saying hi to 10+ people before I got to class, the laughs after practice, the random nights that turned into core memories. I miss my team and the chaos of being a student-athlete. College went by fast—faster for me than most—but it gave me so much. A home. A purpose. A path. And I’m carrying all of it with me into this next chapter. taken in Southwestern College by @hannah.weber34

Volleyball, you will always have a special place in my heart. Playing college volleyball was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I’m beyond grateful for the experiences I’ve had. A special thank you to my parents, who drove to almost every game— I can count on one hand how many games they missed. Their unwavering support means the world to me, and I’m forever thankful for their commitment. I will always carry the passion and lessons I’ve learned with me, and I’m forever thankful for the journey. Weber out 🥹 taken in Southwestern College by @hannah.weber34
