It’s my best friend’s 40th birthday today! 🎂

In honor of the illustrious @alison__wu and our 20 years(!) of friendship, here’s a compilation of just a few of the many adventures (and misadventures) we’ve shared over the years.

A little birthday pilgrimage back to the city where I was born & that continues to hold a lil piece of my heart.

According to family lore (& video footage), I was born in a carriage house in Fort Greene, Brooklyn and the midwife was stuck in traffic so my dad ended up catching me like a football when I emerged.

Every time I return to the city I feel a sense of the comfort of home as well as the thrill of travel. I love the duality found in deep familiarity paired with fresh wonder, and it’s how I feel with you @mountainsnrivers 🤍 taken in New York City by @hannah_aronowitz

The past few weeks have been a bit of a birthday marathon, but this party was the pinnacle. 🎂🌹✨

I usually keep birthday activities out of town and low key, but as my fellow ’86 babies know, this year was a big one! I let myself be encouraged to have a real celebration and let me tell you, I highly recommend it. 40 has been the very best birthday yet and I can’t wait to see what the next decade brings.

Too many thanks to call out individually, but a much deserved shoutout to @revadevito for producing the perfect party and to all who contributed your time, talents, and funds to bring it to life. Thank you to those who traveled from afar, baked my dream cake, transported balloons, showered me in flowers, gifts, and kisses, danced all night, and rang in the dawn. And to my far-flung loves who called, texted, or sent love from a distance.

Been a while! 2026 started out pretty rough, with a lot of unexpected change and the emotional upheaval that comes with that. But in true form, the calm on the other side of that storm feels especially precious, and worth sharing. Hometown heart full on these fall colors. It’s been forever since I experienced the autumn of my childhood - that amber ember palette, crisp air, wood smoke rising from chimneys, sunshine through birch & maples, fat deer and crafty chipmunks, crunch crunch go the feet. It’s cliche and poetic and soothing to the nervous system. Basically the earth signaling - it’s ok to rest now. I accept. taken in Woodstock, New York by @hannah_aronowitz
