POSTS STORIES REELS

I had stories on the front page of the Saturday and Sunday paper of the Pioneer Press this weekend. Pretty cool. What’s even cooler is that they were both stories about women’s issues: one about women’s safety on public transit and one about healthcare for women veterans. I’m grateful I get to jump into the lives of so many interesting people and sit with them for a while. by @hannahbrueske

Got to spend last week in beautiful Kentucky to work on @wherethemountainssing , a feature documentary about the people and place that make @laurelcovemusicfestival 🏔️ 🎶 It’s set for release on PBS and Amazon Prime at the end of this year so stay tuned☺️ For now, here’s some pictures from the shoot! by @hannahbrueske

I think they’re talking about us…

Yesterday I got to spend some time at the Ed Sullivan Theater to see the inner workings of the @colbertlateshow
I’ve been watching the show with my dad for years so this was very special for me.

I met many of the incredible staff and even shook the hand of the GOAT @colbert himself. Thank you @ballardcboyd it’s an experience that affirmed who I want to be and what I want to do. 🌱 by @hannahbrueske

My artist statement featured in @your.mag 🌱

My beautiful friend @javieregomezpetit asked me to be a part of this. Thank you for taking such good care of my answers and designing these pages so thoughtfully. It’s special to feel seen.

I know my Umi would have loved knowing her face was in an American magazine ☺️ by @hannahbrueske

Let's do another Friday "Meet the Team"!

Originally from Bayreuth, Germany, Hannah Brueske is now a senior journalism student at @emersoncollege in Boston — with a special interest in feature stories, arts reporting, and documentary filmmaking. She is a reporter for The Berkeley Beacon, Emerson’s student newspaper, and the editor-in-chief of The Independent Magazine, which covers independent art. Other than interning on Where the Mountains Sing, she also interns for the @_artsfuse_ , a culture publication in Boston and is currently directing her second documentary short.

Hannah is a huge fan of Americana and folk music. Some of her favorite artists include @brandicarlile, Tracy Chapman, @adriannelenker, @dollyparton, @morganwademusic, and @sufjan Stevens.

Follow Hannah @hannah.brueske and please join us in thanking her for her hard and awesome work on this project! by @hannahbrueske

On a Sunday a few weeks back I went to the Boston Public Garden and asked women passing by what brings them joy about womanhood. Happy Women's History Month 🐛🌸🌿🌞🌈🌻

Are you considering attending Emerson because of Boston’s arts scene? If so, you are on the right track! Junior Hannah Brueske is the spring intern for The ArtsFuse, a local publication dedicated to filling in the gap of arts and culture coverage in the greater Boston Area 🎞⭐️🏙

Local film festivals are THE BOMB! 💣

Boston Underground Film Festival was back for a 26th year this week with repertoire screenings AND premieres of vanguard, experimental, and genre cinema. My favorite was getting to attend the local shorts blocks and seeing what is on the mind of local filmmakers.

I spoke with the new Co-director of the festival, Phil Healy, and new Programming & Operations Manager, Kim Baillargeon, about their history with BUFF, the organization process, and New England’s love for genre film for @theartsfuse . YOU can read it by visiting artsfuse.org. by @hannahbrueske

Before the audience is swept into a stream of family memories spanning over three decades, Joshua’s grandmother, Renee, makes him promise her one thing on her deathbed. If he is set out to write a play about their family, he better make it “as bitter and vitriolic as possible.”

In “We Had a World,” now having its New England premiere at The Huntington, playwright Joshua Harmon does the opposite. True, the one-act play is filled with explosive family arguments and petty vendettas, but is equalized so much by its genuine writing that the tender and sweet moments, though buried underneath the drama, are just as potent.

Outside of writing arts criticism for my internship at the ArtsFuse, I’m currently working on a mini video series interviewing critics about their experience in arts journalism. Here’s a snippet of my first interview with my talented editor Bill Marx.

The full length interview is in my bio 🤗 and there will be more!

I’m also working with Elizabeth Howard on The ShortFuse podcast (produced by the ArtsFuse) which has been a wonderful experience. I’m running the instagram (@theshortfusepodcast ) and even get to work on podcast content.

I’m terrible at updating this account (and don’t get me started on LinkedIn) but starting now I’ll try harder. by @hannahbrueske
