Excited to share the design for PHLASH Vol.1, our collection of creative writing and generated art at @phntmldn ! The stories are written in a flash fiction style, from a variety of phantoms - I wanted the design to reflect traditional fiction publishing, with structure and rhythm to confidently blend art and narrative. Attended a super insightful and brilliantly challenging masterclass today at @d_and_ad led by @studio_sutherland ! Happy 2022 all! ✨ I’m finding 2021 hard to put into words, so here are some images to describe it instead. Back in June, we took on our biggest challenge of the year and put on a physical degree show at @hoxton_arches which was one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever been a part of. @misc.exhibition meant so much to so many people and to the curation team, I miss you all greatly!! Brighton 2021 grads, you are the most resilient bunch of creatives ever 💥❤️ After a short break in Cornwall, in August I started a three month internship with @phntmldn and from November, proudly became a junior designer. I have never learnt so much so fast and met so many talented people! I’ve worked on projects that have stretched me creatively and expanded my practice beyond what I could imagine. 2022 will be a big one for our team! 👻 Navigating post-grad life has been a whirlwind and definitely not easy, but I’m super grateful for all that has happened and that we made possible. Here it is! This film documents an unguided interaction with my book, printed and hand-bound by me for my last project at university. At first the book displays one narrative running on the outer pages. The reader must break through the perforated edges to find the inner content. I’m so proud of this book and how the special pages and structure came together to make a really tactile experience for the reader. Big thank you to @judegrover for ripping the pages, @wheatleyalfie for printing a very important page, and Helen @bookartsbrighton for all your book arts wisdom.

Today I finished my degree!! 🥳 How strange it feels to be saying that! Here is a little more about my final publication - when designing this book, interactivity was a central focus, to facilitate the reader breaking away from their busy life and encourage actively experiencing the book. On first interaction, the folded pages appear visually overwhelming to reflect fast and accelerated living. Then, each page can be opened to reveal a calmer space offering photography, essays and perspectives on slow living.

Cover and inner gatefold pages of my publication on hustle culture and slow living. The cover is made with matte black book cloth, blue embroidery thread and a printed polyweave dust jacket. There are four chapters; Time, Work, Message and Sleep. The title comes from my own alternative definition of the word “Slam”: meaning impact, the point of realisation that you have been accelerating through life, a collision that occurs when you overtake life’s natural pace.

Very excited to share a first look at the publication I’ve produced for my final university project! The book is a hardback japanese bound french fold structure exploring the pace of life and how we respond to hustle culture and slow living. Each page is made to be torn open, revealing an alternative perspective. More to come soon!
