Pt 2 of 2! I am so happy and proud to share this comic I created with my friend Zach for the @nytopinion about his experience of being a trans dad. I’ve been friends with Zach for 23 years and truly admire and love how he is with his daughter. His whole story is so inspiring, and it feels particularly meaningful to be sharing a tiny part of it for Fathers Day, given the political climate of this mad planet right now.

Thank you SO so much to incredible art director @elanaschlenker and editor @nadja_nadja for this amazing opportunity and all your help creating this. It’s been a joy to work on!

You can catch more of this @unexpected_situations

🚀 GUEST ILLUSTRATOR ANNOUNCEMENT!

We’re VERY excited to welcome @hannahjacobs_animation to The Illustrator’s Launchpad! 🎉

Hannah is an award-winning illustrator and animation director whose beautifully expressive work brings together illustration, movement and visual storytelling.

And she’ll be bringing something a little different to Launchpad… 👀

Inside Week 7: Visual Storytelling, Hannah will take us behind the scenes of her creative practice, sharing how she approaches sequence, movement and animation to develop an idea beyond a single image.

Then it’s over to you. 🔥

Hannah will set a playful creative exercise inviting you to experiment with visual storytelling through comics or GIF animation — exploring how a simple idea, observation or moment can unfold across a sequence of images.

You might create a short comic, experiment with illustrated frames or have a go at bringing your drawings to life through a simple GIF.

It’s about trying something new, thinking beyond the single image and discovering new possibilities for your work. ✏️✨

Who’s Launchpad for? 🚀

Launchpad is for aspiring, emerging + developing illustrators who want to:

✏️ Build stronger creative skills
👀 Experiment, explore + develop their visual voice
🔥 Try new approaches to illustration + storytelling
🚀 Make more work and build creative momentum

No polished portfolio or established style required.

Ready to build your illustration practice? 🚀

The Illustrator’s Launchpad starts 28th September. Hannah joins fellow mentors @danwoodger @mollymccammon_ and @lilykongyuet ✨

Comment LAUNCHPAD and we’ll send you the details. Doors open 24th September.

Let’s go! ✏️
