A year and a half ago, I received a call from a friend asking if I’d be interested in branding a coffee shop owned by a friend of his. I was honored and said yes.Over the following year and a half, I spent much of my spare time—nights, weekends, and in-between moments—bringing the brand for @blueridgecoffeehouse to life. More recently, after being laid off at my design job at Amazon. I was able to complete the final set of assets needed for opening.Building a design system from the ground up has been deeply fulfilling. In a world focused on speed and productivity, third spaces matter more than ever. Blue Ridge Coffee House was created as a place to slow down. Nestled in Seattle’s Blue Ridge neighborhood, just a block from Swansons Nursery, it’s a thoughtfully crafted space built to serve its community and all who come through. It’s been a privilege to help translate that intention into something tangible, and to play a small part in bringing this place to life. About 9 months ago I got laid off from my design job at Amazon. Add in some other life stuff and boom, I finally took the leap into freelance design full time. Now I run my own studio, currently 3 branding projects deep while also building a brand of my own on the side.My focus is brand systems, helping businesses actually stand out in a world that’s saturated with sameness. That means strategy, logo design, color, typography, and whatever else the brand actually needs to feel whole. I’m strategy first, design second. I get deep into a brand before I design a single thing, because every decision should mean something, not just look good. by @hannahphillipsstudio

Fun fact about me: Before I was a graphic designer, I actually ran my own photography business back in high school and college (and for a year or two after). Started shooting when I was 13!I don’t really advertise it anymore, since design is my main focus, but a former client’s sister recently reached out looking for senior photos and of course I said yes. by @hannahphillipsstudio

Had the pleasure of heading downtown to meet with Cooper, who along with his wife owns The Crumpet Shop (@thecrumpetshop_ ), and lock in our color palette for the shop. We wanted something that felt like a refresh while still holding onto all the heritage and charm of the original storefront, so I pulled inspiration straight from the space itself, the yellow in their ceramic mugs, the tea sign, the green molding in the Market, some crimson accents scattered through the shop. Little details that already belonged there, just brought into focus. This is honestly my favorite part of the process. Meeting clients in person and getting to stand in the actual space where the branding will live changes everything, you notice things you’d never catch from photos alone. For background, The Crumpet Shop is Seattle’s original tea and crumpet company, founded by Gary Lasater in 1976 and lovingly run today by the Golding family. This year marks 50 years in the Market and one year at their second location in Edmonds, which makes this feel like exactly the right moment to look at the brand with fresh eyes.More to come once it all comes together… by @hannahphillipsstudio

Here’s what I did today as a freelance graphic designer First, I typically wake up at 6:30-7am and have a full morning routine that is not spent documenting what I’m doing or on my phone. My mornings are sacred spent with the Lord and I like to keep it that way, it really dictates the rest of my day. I usually head to the gym after that but today was a little different and I headed there later on… I went to @yokateaofficial and worked there in the early and late afternoon on some work for my rebrand of @thecrumpetshop_ we are in the midst of working on a color system, which I will share more about tomorrow šŸ’›As I previously mentioned, I worked out at my gym and then went for a long walk and did natures stair master by going up several flights of stairs. šŸŽØšŸ¤ by @hannahphillipsstudio

A little over a year and a half ago, we asked the Blue Ridge community a simple question:ā€œWhat influences your choice of coffee shop?ā€The answers revealed something bigger than coffee.People were looking for warmth, familiarity, quality, and a place to gather — a true neighborhood space. Those insights became the foundation for the brand identity of Blue Ridge Coffee House. This carousel shares the strategy behind the branding. What do you want to see next? #branddesign #branding #coffeeshop #graphicdesign by @hannahphillipsstudio

Hi, I’m so glad you’re here šŸ¤šŸ‘‹A few things about me—Born and raised in Washington state šŸ”ļøšŸŒ²Graphic designer by training and profession šŸ‘©ā€šŸŽØI spent 3.5 years working as a visual designer at Amazon before being laid off last September, which truly ended up being a blessing in disguise. It gave me the space to focus fully on the work and ideas I care most about.Beyond design, I’m also an entrepreneur building @flairkeys—an accessory line focused on elevating everyday objects (our keys šŸ”‘). Launching later this year ✨#branding #seattle #graphicdesign #entrepreneurship by @hannahphillipsstudio
