The impact a doula can have on a birth space can change a woman’s life. It changed mine. She didn’t come with a bag of tools n tricks to help me cope. She came with just herself. She brought me back to my body. Papa was so amazing and he never left my side. But I remember the exact moment when I needed her. I felt a little out of control. I was questioning my decision. Things felt very intense. But as soon as she arrived and kneeled down by the tub everything changed. I believe that unconsciously this was the moment I realized I was meant to serve women as well and I just can’t wait to be on the other side of the tubšŸ„¹ā¤ļø taken in Houston, Texas by @hannahvalusek

Using my classic Black magic for this reel today… but I just have to admit… not even 7 months ago I didn’t even know what a Begoina wasā€¦šŸ«£

I had just started my first year outdoor gardening at a whopping 31 years of age even though I come from a very long line of farmers and gardeners. I realized very quick that I needed to keep that alive… so I went to my first plant con last April and it was there that I came across a pink variegated snowcapped begonia. I wanted to cry because of the feelings that it made me feel. Of course I purchased her, brought her home and disappeared for about 5 months to learn, reacclimatize my lore like I have to do every year but it’s never enough, I mean what could possibly ever help you when you’re forced to co parent with your rapist in a state like Texas? In a world that puts all of the responsibility of healing onto you when it was never yours to hold.

Yes I dropped that bomb on here because it IS my life and ALOT of mother’s lives and something amazing happened to me during that time. The begonias had saved my life and I didn’t notice at first that I had found my cure. And EVERYONE who stuck in a world not meant for them, deserves a cure. And it IS possible. I never thought it would be.

I have absolutely no clue where or what I’d be feeling right now without them.

My favorite addition to my doula services or the perfect gift to a new mom has to be Mandi Bunga, also known as herbal sitz bath. Malaysia is the world’s most diverse postpartum heritage. Taking care of mom = taking care of baby. This bath is given to mothers after birth and also done for brides before their weddings!! A tradition i believe we should bring back.

These baths warm mamas body and womb, boiled herbs are added to reduce swelling, soreness, healing of stitches, muscle ache, and any discomfort. Flowers are added to increase mamas radiance, highlights her inner beauty, and brings good energy into her family home.

I like for mom to pick her favorite music playlist or i will play relaxing spa music. This time is for her to reconnect with herself and I remind her that she is so much more than just a mom. I’m available to play with siblings during this time, and it’s also a perfect time for dad to bond with the newest addition, or if mom wants to have her baby with her, I LOVE that. Older siblings love to play in the flowers once mom is done. I clean everything up and tuck mom and baby back into bed. I took the Mandi Bunga class last year and it’s a combination of love for flowers, baths and postpartum mamas even if she’s already a year postpartum, it’s not to late to treat yourself or that special mama in your lifešŸ„¹šŸ˜

Brought to you in part by @kodinicolee the mama in this reel. She’s been my ride or die for a very long time. She’s so good at this content stuff and I’m so thankful for heršŸ„¹šŸ’•
Also thank you @ibu_adilah for teaching this class and culture.

Membrane sweeps or ā€œstretching things outā€ before her body is ready does next to nothing. I’m sure this plant would tense up and resist to changing its shape, most likely curling right back up. It would also hurt it and create stress. I don’t need to try it to assume that. Let’s normalize not sticking our fingers in something so sacred to stretch it out unless MOM specifically brings it up and has made her own informed decision to do so. And when I said ā€œweā€ I mean OBs and medwives. by @hannahvalusek

I can, I will and I did. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to the noise or even the silence that came when I would speak my plans. The look and glare of ā€œare you sure? are you serious?ā€ I could feel their nervous energy for me. Which was fine. I get it. lol

But i was in my own world, making sure that we had a chance. Emailing every midwife email I could find in a 2hr radius. It wasn’t easy. A lot of tears. A lot of ā€œno’sā€. A lot of false hopes. And the glaring questions of ā€œwhere will I give birth? And how? Will I be forced to go to the hospital and under the knife all because an OB doesn’t know breech maneuvers? Something easily taught? Not a single OB?ā€ It had me in a tizzy for sure. I wasn’t going to give up, unless I went into labor and still didn’t have anyone.

I’m so thankful for my midwife @hshearman for taking us on last minute, without her it wouldn’t have been possible. Always dig deeper for the truth. Interview 10 midwives if you have to. Just because we have been programmed a certain thing over and over again, doesn’t mean there isn’t any other options. I found my midwife and transferred care at 38 almost 39 weeks so we could achieve this.

I’m so proud of my daughter, I know that wasn’t easy for her either but we did it together. That was me at the end double checking it was a girl because I just couldn’t believe I got my girl. Gender surprise will do that to yašŸ„¹ā¤ļø

Forever grateful for my team that day. Much love to my doula @subherbanwellnessco she’s doing amazinggggg things right now with her re brand, if you’re in Houston you have to check her stuff out🄹 by @hannahvalusek

We ran out of soil, so I’ll get more and plant the hibiscus tomorrow. I still have plenty capsules left over. My next idea is to get jewelry made with it and my last bag of frozen breast milk from the one and only @auspiciousbeginningsjewelry ā¤ļøšŸ„¹ by @hannahvalusek

If you told me just a year ago that my purpose was to serve women in birth, I probably would have said ā€œthat does sound like meā€ I knew so much about real birth and how it was stolen from women. It was my favorite topic. My breech birth changed my life. It planted seeds that started growing fast and wild. But a year ago I was shrugging the idea off because hello imposter syndrome.

So some months back I asked my spirt guides, God and the universe that if this was my calling, if this was finally it, to let it be known. A week went by and the idea just wouldn’t leave my head. It was pressing hard all the sudden and leaving me in a puddle of happy tears every time I thought about it. I knew my question was answered but I used to think that certification, expensive mentorship’s, medicalized teachings and being the black sheep of the group would be ahead of me. I had no idea that I already had everything inside of me. The Birth Belongs to Women mentorship changed my life and showed me that I was more than qualified. I found it almost immediately after my revelation.

I’ve struggled finding my purpose on this planet. From a young age I just knew that I was born to make change and born to do special work. I just didn’t know what that was and it was frustrating growing up and not having an answer to ā€œwhat are you going to be when you grow up?ā€ That frustrating question eased into my adulthood and worried me often but it was essential that I show my children they can do what they love to do for a job and that it’s okay to fight for what you believe in.

This is where I belong and I feel so content about it all. I’m here to serve and love on families who are interested in Home birth but regardless I’m always open to hearing your story to see if we fit. I believe every mother deserves to have a doula by her side no matter her situation and I want to help with that. Even if it’s not me that serves you. I’m here to support families interested in leaving the corrupt systems behind. I serve women, not birthing persons, not corrupt OBs and hospitals, not your MIL and definitely not the system. I’m here for you as a soulmate, I’m here for your past, present and futureā¤ļø taken in Houston, Texas by @hannahvalusek
