Cymraeg (the Welsh language) is alive—and millions of people have never heard it spoken. We’ve made CARDIGAN! to share Welsh with the world. Thank you to the excellent talk show @henos4c and @owaingwynedd for sharing our journey!

If this is your first time hearing Cymraeg—croeso (welcome). You’re stepping into one of Europe’s oldest living cultures. Cymraeg comes from the same language family as Irish (Gaeilge) and Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig) and has been spoken for over 1,500 years.

By taking this short film to festivals around the world, we hope to support Wales in its bold goal: to double the number of Welsh speakers by 2050. If Welsh interests you, consider an in-person or online Welsh course with @dysgucymraeglearnwelsh! Their highly affordable summer immersion and online courses have made me the Welsh speaker I am today.

Os yw hwn eich tro cyntaf i glywed y Gymraeg, croeso! Dych chi’n camu mewn un o’r dywyllianau byw henaf yn Ewrop. Mae Cymraeg yn dod o’r un teulu iethyddol na Gaeilge (o Iwerddon) a Gàidhlig (o’r Alban) a wedi cael ei siarad ers mwy na 1,500 o flynyddoedd.

Kyle is one of the most complicated characters I have ever played. Though he’s a villain, I think I’ve found a way to understand why he does some of the terrible things he does.

By the way, if you get the chance, I strongly recommend acting with the formidable Sara Lloyd Gregory. She is a force!

Also, if you are an actor or actress who is learning Welsh, you should look for the opportunity to act on Pobol y Cwm! The cast, crew and audience will have your back.

Hans Obma is a Green Bay-based actor who grew up in La Crosse and Fond du Lac.

“Pobol y Cym” is a Welsh-language television drama that debuted in 1974, known as the BBC’s longest-running soap opera.

How did the two come together? When Obma joined the program for its 2026 season.

Talking to WPR’s “Wisconsin Today,” Obma says his love of languages has opened doors in the acting world — and has ultimately led him to a recurring role on the long-running show based in Wales in the United Kingdom.
