Canadian Gunnar Holmgren leads Saturday’s Pro XCO during the US Pro Cup in Fayetteville, AR before a flat in the second to last lap lands him in the tech zone and ultimately in 8th place. Holmgren was one of eight Canadians finishing in the top ten on the day.

I looked in my rear-view mirror at my subject as he rolled his Harley into position for an interview with the local news; I had just loaded a fresh roll of film. As I opened the door to my Jeep, his cowboy boot slipped on the loose gravel and down he went. I rushed to get the camera up to my face and then ... click-click ... click. Just like that, the first frames I made for my assignment to cover “Evel Knievel Days” in Butte, MT were of Evel Knievel himself, crashing. What are the odds?
The photo ran 20 years ago as a full page in the December ‘02 issue of RacerX Illustrated, complimenting my story titled “THE RICHEST HILL ON EARTH”.
