An incredible weekend with my college-aged kids reminded me of something I don’t think we talk about enough:

Our kids notice more than we realize.

The inconsistency. The hangovers. The fogginess. The times we’re technically there, but not fully present.

And sometimes we don’t realize what they’ve seen or what they’ve quietly carried until much later.

Sobriety didn’t just change what I drink. It changed how I show up.

More present. More consistent. More myself.

Of all the things my kids could say about my relationship with alcohol, I’m incredibly grateful the story ends with:

“She quit.” by @happiest_houraf

How much longer do we want to give so much energy to something that leaves us distracted, disconnected, anxious, and carrying shame for hours… sometimes days after?

For what?

The older I get, the more I realize life is too short to keep checking out of it.
Too short to miss moments, conversations, mornings, peace, connection, and ourselves.

You don’t have to hit some dramatic rock bottom to decide you want more for your life.

Follow if you’re exploring life beyond alcohol.

I thought I was ‘living’ before and now I feel Iike I was actually living under a rock.

Is it perfect? No. Is it hard? Sometimes.
It’s messy, it’s imperfect…but it’s beautiful, honest & real.
Almost like nothing changed yet everything changed inside me.

Thank god for this gift of freedom and the courage to be brave enough to go step off that hamster wheel.

Freedom from mental negotiations, self-sabotage, guilt, hangovers, and most of all being disconnected from my self.

This is peace.

Thank you @mikey_devine @kelyndevinee @jmdevine0117 my Why, my loves for always cheering me on I Love you more 💕🫶🏼

I spent so long in that miserable middle place. Knowing I didn’t want to keep living that way, but unable to imagine life any other way.

I thought that was just how it was going to be.

What finally changed was realizing I had to stop fighting to make something work that simply wasn’t working for me anymore.

Surrendering to that was one of the bravest things I’ve ever done.

Sometimes we just need someone to help us see a way out when we can’t see it for ourselves. ❤️

I thought I was fine. I worked out, ate healthy, showed up for my kids, my family, my responsibilities. From the outside, everything looked pretty good.

But alcohol had quietly found its way into almost every part of my life. Every celebration, every vacation, every gathering, every excuse to unwind.

And what I couldn’t see at the time was what it was costing me.

Not just physically or mentally, but spiritually. My peace, my self-trust, and something that matters deeply to me today: the example I was setting for my kids.

I spent so much time beating myself up, making promises to myself, and then doing it all over again.

I wasn’t living a bad life. But I wasn’t living as intentionally as I thought I was, either.

That’s why I created Happiest Hour. A community of women who are ready to stop questioning themselves, stop going back and forth with alcohol, and start creating a life that feels better.

Not just a life without alcohol. A life with more purpose, intention, connection, and peace.
How are you showing up in your life?
You don’t have to figure it all out alone. 🤍

The pressure to have it all together.
To be everything to everyone close to us can build & the release valve feels like reaching for a glass, even the bottle.
But what I eventually learned was that even though the release was temporary, it only added to my stress, that’s what it’s designed to do. To make you want more, to make you believe that you need it for everything.
A crutch …a friend.
I finally stopped believing the lie and you can too. DM for information on support.

Getting mad at the alcohol was one of the best things that happened to me when I stopped drinking.

Because for the first time, I stopped romanticizing it and started getting brutally honest about what it had actually been costing me.

I was tired of making excuses, minimizing the consequences, and convincing myself that the good somehow outweighed the bad.

That helped me see things I had spent years trying not to see.

And eventually, the anger turned into something much more powerful. Acceptance, accountability, and change.

Sometimes getting mad is exactly what we need to stop defending something that isn’t serving us anymore.

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone I have a community of women who feel the same way.

Not once.

Not after a wedding, a vacation, a night out with friends, or even a really hard day.

Have I missed the idea of drinking sometimes? Sure. But I’ve never woken up wishing I had drank the night before.

And that tells me everything I need to know.

Sometimes the hardest part is remembering that the thing you’re craving isn’t necessarily the thing you actually want. ❤️
