Trains passing by the stratozero.net art space in Germany carry sounds from far-away places (field recordings as well as digitally generated sounds) contributed by @studio_mcmullen_winkler and Swiss sound artists Patricia Jäggi and Christoph Brünggel. The hybrid soundscape of Ecophone 03 mixes them with the local context of the stratozero.net sonic environment. For our recent exhibition at Forum Klanglandschaft at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Catania in Italy a phone in the exhibition space allowed visitors to listen to the hybrid sound stream online. The phone rang whenever a train passed by stratozero in Germany calling attention to a new batch of prepared sounds that were brought into the hybrid soundscape. In this video example we hear field recordings by Patricia Jäggi, recorded traveling by train across Europe. Shannon and Fabian were honored to be part of the 10th anniversary celebration of stratozero.net art space in Germany yesterday. Projects presented at this event included the first elektro-cut edition by Patrick Jungk and Harald F. Müller, Harald F. Müller’s Kunstaktien (art bonds), Harald F. Müller’s art & architecture works photographed by Guido Kasper and our web-based soundscape Ecophones 03. Ecophones 03 (project link in bio) is based on the trains passing by the art center transporting sounds from around the world into a web-based hybrid soundscape, developed with the technical support of our studio intern Lilian Zhao (@lettuce.0_0). Invited contributors to the Ecophone 03 hybrid soundscape include Swiss sound artists Patricia Jäggi and Christoph Brünggel. Ecophone 03 will run throughout Fall 2026. Further sound contributions will be added periodically. The next contribution will be arriving soon via India from Abinash Mallick (MFA Purdue ’24, @pxl_syn).
