A Hong Kong-themed cafe in Brooklyn where you can get authentic HK style milk tea and red bean slush (紅豆冰) alongside coffee and matcha🧋🇭🇰

I’ve been feeling pretty homesick lately, and @harbourkafe warmed my heart the moment I walked in🥹 It reminded me so much of the recent trend in HK where younger generations turn old, closed-down cha chaan tengs into cafes.

From the floor tiles and hanging wall calendar to the clock, movie posters, and even the cantopop playlist, all the little details felt so nostalgic♥️

The cafe was cozy and not too busy even on a weekend afternoon. They also have wifi, power outlets, and a restroom, making it a decent wfh friendly spot💻

🧋 𝙄𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙃𝙆 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙠 𝙏𝙚𝙖 $5
The milk tea was pretty on par with what I’d get at a HK cafe. I asked for less sugar (aka less evaporated milk), and I noticed they even have cans of Black & White evaporated milk on display (the secret to authentic HK milk tea flavor🐄).

🫘 𝙍𝙚𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙎𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙝 $6
My childhood favorite! I liked their red bean-to-milk ratio because I prefer just a little red bean without it taking over😂It was obviously sweeter than the milk tea, but made for a nice caffeine-free afternoon drink.

🥧 𝙀𝙜𝙜 𝙏𝙖𝙧𝙩 $3.5
I went pretty close to closing, so I don’t think the egg tart was at its freshest anymore. It was the flaky pastry kind (酥皮), which isn’t my personal favorite either. They did heat it up for me though, which definitely helped!

🥜 𝙋𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙩 𝙈𝙤𝙘𝙝𝙞
This mochi was literally the size of my palm! It reminded us of Cheung Chau giant mochi (長洲糯米糍). The wrapper was super soft and stretchy, although it was so sticky that it got stuck to the paper bag. Loved the sweet peanut filling🤤

@harbourkafe, a Hong Kong–inspired cafe, just opened in Williamsburg offering a variety of drinks and snacks.

Menu highlights include:

• Hong Kong Milk Tea
• Matcha & Houjicha Lattes (classic, strawberry, mango)
• Peanut Mochi
• Roasted Pork Bun
• Egg Tart

The space is super cute, decked out with red lanterns, Hong Kong movie posters, dancing dragon heads. It has a nostalgic, old‑school HK vibe.

Harbour Kafe is a new Hong Kong-inspired café in Williamsburg, born from a year-long passion project by a family wanting to share the culture they grew up with ☕

Beyond classic Hong Kong drinks like Yuen Yeung and Honey Lemon, they also serve creative matcha and hōjicha drinks, along with pastries and light bites. Their syrups are made in-house, and I loved the little details throughout the space, from the tiled interior to the nostalgic playlist that ties everything together 🎶

What we tried:
🍵 Chrysanthemum Matcha Latte: Refreshing and not too sweet (make sure to mix the chrysanthemum syrup thoroughly!). The floral chrysanthemum comes through first, then gradually transitions into the grassy, earthy matcha. I went with soy milk 🥛☺️

🫘 Red Bean Slush: Almost every Hong Konger’s childhood 🤣 Creamy and nostalgic. It was the sweetest drink we tried (more like a dessert treat, but not overly sweet). It reminded us of the Yi Mei 義美 Creamy Red Bean Popsicle from Taiwan, with a lingering red bean aroma 😊

🥜 Peanut Mochi: You can’t go wrong with mochi ☁️ Chewy, gooey, and heavenly. The coconut-coated exterior pairs so well with the sweet peanut filling, reminding me of peanut candy 👍

☕ Yuen Yeung: You get both the boldness of their medium-dark roast coffee and the smoothness of Hong Kong milk tea. A great pick if you need a tasty caffeine boost 🏃‍♂️

If you’re around Williamsburg, it’s a cozy spot to stop by for a drink and a pastry. They just soft opened, so treat them gently while they settle in 🤍
