Tonight I drove home with a pie and a basket of wet laundry.

Today I turned 28. It was a full Sunday, running AV, setting up a puppet stage, cooking enough chicken cheese and rice to feed a small army, and singing with some of the best kids around. The 109 family really is so very special to me, and I got to spend the whole day with them.

There were a lot of kind words, a quick lunch in the middle of the chaos, and more generosity than I deserved. Banana pudding, Dutch Bros, and a homemade pie showed up at just the right times.

But in a day built on plans and schedules, there were two moments where everything stopped.

The first was watching a son baptize his father.
The second was watching a father baptize his daughter.

Two reminders of what all this is about.

So tonight I drove home with a homemade pie from a dear sister, and a basket of wet laundry from the birth of two new Christians.

And honestly, if this is what 28 looks like, I hope I get to do it again before 29. taken in Lebanon, Tennessee by @hardisonmoles1

I nervously hit send on a draft of a project that had lived, half-formed, in my head for months. I would circle back to it randomly, never quite sure how to express the idea in a way that felt engaging or honest within roughly three minutes.

Then one night, the direction finally clicked. I wrote the script in one sitting. The words flowed easily, which told me there was something there. Still, I was not sure how it would land.

The response I received afterward did not just validate the concept. It reminded me that this feeling is something many of us carry:

“When you were talking about being a kid and looking through things with wonder and awe but life got in the way, that is exactly how I felt when I rediscovered the ability to imagine and wonder again three years ago. Your description took me right back there. Every adult should shed a tear listening to that once everything comes together. Because I lived in that hole for nearly 30 years.”

Saturday night, as more than 3,200 people gathered for packed days of worship, classes, and connection, this project helped set the tone. I have been creating openers for this event for several years now, but this one felt different. It felt more personal and more timely.

The theme of Reawaken Wonder speaks deeply into where so many people find themselves today, and it took shape in a meaningful way last night. Students filled the front of the convention hall, asking for prayer, caring for one another, and expressing a desire to strengthen their relationship with God. It was a quiet reminder that God is still at work in the lives of those who are willing to show up and seek Him.

EYC is one of my favorite events to be part of each year. There are countless reasons why, but chief among them is witnessing the impact it has on the lives of those who attend.

Special thanks to @harrisiii
When this idea was still floating around in my head, I revisited his book, The Wonder Switch, and it became a major catalyst in shaping this project. I deeply respect Harris, and the work he and @katemharris do continues to bring light into my life and challenge me to do what I do with greater intention and care. taken in Von Braun Center by @hardisonmoles1

Six months ago, I turned 27.

For me, birthdays aren’t about gifts or pomp and circumstance — just an excuse to share a meal with the people I love. This year, my birthday landed on a church retreat weekend, so we pushed plans back a week. But before we made it to the weekend, my world turned upside down.

The evenings I anticipated remembering the past year were instead spent in the ICU at my father’s bedside. Celebration of another year of life traded for the yearning for just another moment with him. Laughter and smiles over a nice dinner replaced with silence and tears over takeout in disposable containers. Still, I was in the presence of those I love dearly.

Twenty-six weeks later, I’d be lying if I said these days haven’t been grueling. Life hasn’t slowed: camps, conventions, events, and daily ministry work fill my schedule. Add doctor visits, chauffeuring, and 3 AM alarms to run Dad’s route, and it feels like I’ve been running a never-ending marathon. Sleep has been brief. Sundays are bookended by early mornings on the road. For the first time in my life, I got more rest at church camp than at home.

People ask how Dad is doing — and truly, he is doing great. But as time passes, the excitement of progress dominates the conversations, while the sense of still drowning floods my heart. It’s hard to express gratitude for progress while exhaustion still lingers. Things can be both really good and tough at the same time.

These six months have been some of the hardest I have ever lived — a swirl of emotions, a packed schedule, and a constant state of being “on.” Yet in the middle of all of it, I’ve seen God work in beautiful ways. My faith has grown stronger.

When Jesus called Peter onto the water, the storm was still raging. As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he stayed above the waves. When he looked at the storm, he began to sink — and Jesus still reached out His hand.

The winds and waves of life haven’t stopped, but keeping my eyes on Jesus has kept me standing.

This year has been wild, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m thankful for a loving God who is present in the storm.

Here’s to the next half. Keeping the focus on Jesus. taken in Nashville, Tennessee by @hardisonmoles1

“Someone did this for me when I was younger and I want to do the same for someone else”
This phrase from @jacksondeanav came from a conversation about Horizons and the sentiment rings so true in my passion for this week every summer.

Though I never went to Horizons as a camper, I grew up going to several events that helped me deepen my faith, develop as a leader, and ultimately direct me into the place I am at today. I love getting to serve at Horizons as it is a place where all of these things are predominantly on display.

The theme for this year was Goodness of God. Personally, this theme couldn’t have come at a better time. The lessons each day were all phenomenal and you could clearly see the way it provoked deep spiritual reflection and response across the camp. As we poured out our hearts in praise, it reminded me how much God has done and continues to do in my life and in the lives of all.

A unique aspect of Horizons is its intentional design to help students grow as leaders. From classes to help equip them with leadership skills to directly allowing opportunities for jumping in to work alongside so many different areas, Horizons excels at building the next generation of leaders.

One of the electives that campers can select each year is an AV class. It’s great to see students learn about the work I love so much. We get to share a hands on, behind the scenes view of how we pull off the technical side of events like this. Our video for all events and worship is run by students and their work is impressive.

All of this is what makes the week worth it. So much is said about this generation, but if you saw what I saw this past week, you would be inspired by their passion, dedication, and commitment towards their faith and serving as leaders. I am excited to see what these students continue to do for the kingdom. What an honor it was to pour into them in the same ways people pored into me years ago. Someone did it for me, now I get to do it for them. taken in Freed-Hardeman University by @hardisonmoles1

I can’t believe she’s already 3!

Being an uncle is one of my favorite things ever. Since I held her the first time when she could fit right in the palms of my hands til now being so grown, my love for her has only increased.

If you talk to me for any length of time, you’re gonna hear about her. I’m so excited for another year of big hugs, adorable laughs, and always just one more episode of Minnie Mouse.

Happy birthday to my sweet Camryn Ann!

I tried hard yesterday to find the right words of gratitude for experiencing another Father’s Day with my dad. I couldn’t find a way to express it, then I reread something I wrote in a Kroger parking lot 3 days after his cardiac arrest. I think it sums up my feelings perfectly.

Love you tons, Dad - so thankful you are still here with us

Photo: After his defibrillator was placed, they gave him a snack since he hadn’t eaten in a while. He sells the competition to both the chips and crackers they gave him, so he jokingly wanted to express his dissatisfaction with the selection offered. by @hardisonmoles1

My mother is a rock. She is truly a remarkable woman. I’ve seen her endure so much and these last few weeks. All of it has shown her exceptional strength. I will never forget holding her hand as we drove to the hospital to meet an ambulance and face the yet to be revealed fate of my dad, her husband - the sun rising, the silence of the unknown, and a surreal sense of peace that is unable to be explained.

The days following she continued to show immense levels of composure in the midst of chaos. As dad struggled to come off of sedatives, nights were tough. He didn’t know what was happening and would awaken to confusion and pain.

I wrote these words one of those nights as I watched her gently care for his confused state on zero sleep and following the chaos of the days leading up to this moment.

Sunday, March 30 • 2:30am

She’s beauty and she’s grace. I simply don’t know how she does it. For years I have always known my mom was the best nurse around. Sure she’s not licensed, but there’s no one else I’d rather have by my bedside. She is kind, calm, and collected - no matter what the situation calls for.

Waking up for sedatives is hard especially after the trauma his body has faced. This is our first night in a regular room. This is an exciting step forward, but it also means we are a bit more on our own.

Mom and I both stayed the night so we could have some help when he decided to go for a late night escape from bed attempt.
She is beyond amazing at bringing confusion back into reality. She acknowledges and understands the pain felt and provides encouragement to carry on.

She is the best there is. Dad wouldn’t wish for anyone else by his side through all of this - and neither would I.
