I took a Windows XP laptop, a guitar, a tiny MIDI keyboard, and a microphone into the woods to see if I could make a demo before the battery died.

I got mud all over my cables.

This song isn’t finished yet, but this is the first version of it.

If you like weird little songs made with or inspired by old technology, I have more music out while I keep working on this one.

My EP “Villain” releases 6.30.26 💛 (This song won’t be on it though since I’m not even finished writing it yet.) by @harkesworld

13 year old me was sick of everyone apparently 😭 I recorded this back in 2003, and I’ve never put it online before today.

I just put it on Bandcamp for free, so it’s there if you wanna sing along!

I’m thinking it’d be fun to re-record it in 2026 with some drums or something…

can you guess which one is which? 📼

#retro #vhs #analog #80s #90s

the song is called “Emotional”, and both the song and video were written/recorded/produced by me and my husband in our basement studio ❤️ The goal of the project was to emulate a late 80s / early 90s melancholic “alt-rock” sound inspired by @til_tuesday1985

help… am I overthinking this?? I’m inspired by too many things and I can’t pick a lane.

These songs are all released under “Harke”, except for the two songs marked “unreleased” (Look Outside & Lotalty)

How I made this effect… I used to rotoscope manually, so I’ve been spoiled now by automatic rotoscoping. It’s not perfect, but I make the footage look worse anyway by dithering it in Premiere, so it’s fine for something simple like this.

This song is 20+ years old… sort of.

As a teen back in the early 2000’s, I learned how to edit and mix music by playing with the loops that came with my audio editing programs. Magix Music Maker in particular came with loops that were interchangeable in different keys, so you could construct whole songs in different styles.

Later on, I started playing and recording my own instruments, but loops is how it all began!

One of the songs I made back in 2005 with these loops was this song: “Denial”. I used the “Nu-Metal” loops to make it, and decided to revisit it now over 20 years later and finally release it! I even have the original demo from 2005, maybe I’ll post it later?

Thanks to @mattjamesdougherty for taking my original composition and giving it new life with his production skills, and to Hugo Ribiero for his live drums! 🤘🏼

Side note: I have a license to use these loops. If you decide to use some old soundpools, make sure to check that you have the right to release it commercially. by @harkesworld

This was one of my favorite projects so far! We recorded the song and music video in our basement, and then put it on a VHS tape to give it a more “authentic” kind of lost-media look. I was going for a late 80s/early 90s kind of alt-pop vibe. I’m really happy with how it turned out. Song: Emotional 📼

The video was inspired by “Believed You Were Lucky” by @til_tuesday1985 & @realaimeemann 🖤 by @harkesworld
