Join Harlem River Farms for a hands-on session with Janice Brown of Girl on the Grow, an experienced educator who makes gardening fun, practical, and easy to understand.

This session will focus on propagating herbs — learning how to root, multiply, and grow more from the herbs you already have.

💧 Bring a clean disposable water bottle for the hands-on activity!
And to make the evening even sweeter, Chef Nickey Blue will be bringing samples of Strawberry Basil Lemonade and Coconut Pineapple Lemonade.

Tomorrow: Grow More, Spend Less #13
Join Harlem River Farms for a hands-on evening of fruit propagation, garden work, tastings, and giveaways at the Third Ward Multi-Service Center.

We’ll be learning about propagating and giving away:
🍃 Fig
🍃 Pomegranate
🍃 Muscadine
🍃 Blackberry

Featured presenter Pat O’Donnell has been growing and propagating fruit trees in Houston for 50+ years. He’ll share which fruit trees and vines can be started from cuttings, when layering works, and why some trees are better propagated through grafting.

Plus, Chef Nickey Blue is back with samples:
🍓 Strawberry Elderflower Lemonade
🌿 Basil Lemonade
🍠 Sweet Potato Leaf Tea Cakes

We’ll also be planting and doing garden work at the MSC — and many starter plants and propagation materials will be given out.

🌸 Plant Spotlight: Lavender Butterfly Pea

One of the most beautiful and useful plants in our gardens.

Butterfly pea flowers are edible, attract pollinators, improve soil by fixing nitrogen, and can be used to make a colorful herbal tea.

Fun Fact: Add lemon juice and watch the tea change color!

Our very own Head Chef, CEO & Co-Founder of VK Capital Ventures — Chef Aubrey McCoy (@chefmaubs) — has been selected as one of the featured chefs for the 2026 Juneteenth Red Foods Cookoff at Emancipation Park.

This one is personal.

On the plate: Smoked Tomato Johnny Cake — featuring Third Ward’s own locally grown tomatoes, straight from the TSU garden. The same campus where Chef earned his Master’s in Human Sciences & Consumer Science, with an emphasis in Family & Consumer Science.

Join Harlem River Farms for another Grow More, Spend Less session focused on simple ways to grow food, use more of what we harvest, and save money.

This session will feature CC Brooks of The Metallic Sunflower, who will demonstrate an easy-to-put-together hydroponics system for small spaces, patios, apartments, classrooms, and homes.

We will also have fresh garden-inspired tastings!
👨🏾‍🍳 Chef MAUBS will provide samples of:
🌿 Garden Gate Chimichurri
A sweet potato leaf and herb green sauce
🍵 Sweet Potato Tea

🥗 Our favorite Registered Dietitian, Ms. LaTonya Nealy, will create tasty samples using harvests from:
