What can $10 do? Maybe more than you think!

At Get Goating!, we’re raising more than dairy goats. We’re raising confident, capable kids who are learning responsibility, patience, teamwork, and the value of a little hard work.

Our youth spend countless hours in the barn learning everything from daily animal care and hoof trimming to herd health, showmanship, and the science behind raising dairy goats. They’re getting their hands dirty, asking questions, making mistakes, and learning along the way.

And we want to keep giving them those opportunities!

So we’re kicking off our TEN FOR THE PEN challenge!

🐐 Help us keep these kids learning, growing, and making memories in the barn!

Your donations go directly toward supporting the program, helping cover feed, veterinary care, educational supplies, show expenses, and the everyday costs of hands-on agricultural education.

One exhausted, but very proud, momma over here! 🐐❤️

Another Georgia National Fair is in the books, and I’m pretty proud of these four kids and how they did!

This was Benjamin’s first time competing in showmanship, and Katheryn has improved so much since the last time she was in the ring. Rosalynn and Ethan have both grown in their confidence and ring presence, and I was especially proud of them for taking the time to go find the judge afterward and ask what they could do better next time.

Everyone came home with a ribbon from their individual showmanship classes, but more importantly, everyone walked away having learned something.

And of course, there’s everything that happens outside the show ring. Cleaning pens, taking care of goats, helping each other, spending time with friends, and somehow managing all the stuff that comes along with taking four kids to a livestock show. 😂

This was also my first time sleeping in the barn. The kids have done it before, but apparently it was finally Mom’s turn! Between the goats, the kids, and everything else that goes into a show weekend, I think it’s going to take me a few days to recover. 😂

Show days are long, and there’s always something that doesn’t go quite as planned, but watching the kids grow, become more independent, and take pride in what they’re doing makes it worth it. I 100% couldn’t do it without the support of our dairy goat community!

Now to get everything unpacked, catch up on some sleep, and get ready to do it all again! 🐐❤️

🐺🪙 My Wolves worked on their Adventures in Coins elective today!

We spent the afternoon exploring different coins, learning about mint marks, comparing values, and seeing what we could discover about the change we carry around every day.

I love that Scouting gives us opportunities to take something as simple as a handful of coins and turn it into a fun, hands-on learning experience! Rosalynn is loving her role as Den Chief and is really growing in her leadership skills.

📖✨ We finally finished the book that would NOT end! 😂

The last time we spun our family book wheel, Rosalynn’s choice was The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien, narrated by Andy Serkis.

And so began our very LONG journey through Middle-earth! 💍

There were definitely moments when we wondered if we would ever reach the end, but we really did enjoy the adventure. Tolkien certainly knows how to describe every little detail along the way! 😂

Andy Serkis was absolutely fantastic. His narration brought the characters to life and made listening together that much more enjoyable.

Everyone had their favorite moments, too. Ethan absolutely loved Tom Bombadil, while Rosalynn’s favorite quote was Gandalf’s famous “You shall not pass!”

And that’s one of my favorite things about our family audiobooks. We all experience the same story, but everyone walks away with something different.

Now that we’ve finally finished the book, we’ve started watching the movie together! It’s been fun seeing the world and characters we’ve spent so much time imagining come to life on screen.

Another family adventure in the books! 🌿💍📚

🦔💕 Meet Willow, the newest member of our family!

After years of Katheryn begging for a hedgehog, the stars finally aligned! When we came across a sweet little hedgehog looking for a new family, we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

One of my favorite things about homeschooling is getting to build learning around the things my kids already love.

Benjamin LOVES Pokémon, so this year we’re leaning into that and using it as a jumping-off point for science. We’re taking the creatures, habitats, and relationships he already knows and connecting them to real concepts like ecosystems, adaptations, food chains, biodiversity, and how living things interact with their environment.

And then I found Pokécology. 😂

It fits almost perfectly with what we’ve already been working on, and I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen him this excited about an ecology book.

Sometimes learning doesn’t have to start with the curriculum. Sometimes it starts with what makes a kid’s eyes light up—and we build from there. ❤️

Pokémon may be imaginary, but the science we can explore through it is very real. 🌿🔬⚡️

Pretty sure we just gave Benjamin one of the best nights of his life. 😂❤️

Last night we took the whole crew to see “Weird Al” Yankovic, and I have genuinely never seen Benjamin this excited about anything.

He was absolutely in heaven from beginning to end—singing, laughing, and completely losing his mind. 😂 Watching him experience something he loves THAT much was easily my favorite part of the night.

Definitely one for the family memory books. ❤️🪗🎶

It’s breeding season at Goat House Farm, and this year this board means a little more. 🐐❤️

At 12 years old, Rosalynn is beginning to build a herd of her own. Her Oberhaslis and Recorded Grade Oberhaslis are her foundation herd, and I’ve loved watching her grow from simply asking which buck we’re using to understanding why we choose a particular breeding.

She’s learning to look at each doe individually—her strengths, where she could improve, what we want to preserve, and which genetics might help move the next generation forward. Snow, Artie, and Kiki were all chosen specifically for Rosalynn and the herd she is beginning to build.

This year she’s also stepped into the world of AI, opening up even more opportunities to learn about genetics, reproduction, and thoughtful breeding decisions.

But the biggest change has been in her questions. They’re more thoughtful and more specific. She’s beginning to understand that breeding isn’t just about producing kids next spring. It’s about thinking generations ahead.

Right now, her breeding program looks like names and dates scribbled across a whiteboard.

Someday, I hope she can look across a pasture of Oberhaslis and see where it all began. ❤️🐐

🐺 First Wolf meeting of the year is in the books!

We kicked things off with Running With the Pack—making our own trail snack and then heading out for a hike. And, because apparently we needed to start the year with a little extra adventure, it rained on us. 😂🌧️

But the kids rolled with it, ate their snacks, got a little wet and kept right on going. I think that’s a pretty perfect way to start another year of Cub Scouts. 💙
