Two and a half years ago I joined the Fox 5 crew, and what an incredible journey it has been. The people you meet working in news are more than just coworkers… they’re family. All of us - bonded by a shared passion for true journalism and a drive to deliver for our community. From tight deadlines and long days to tough & tragic stories, this is not an easy career path those of us have chosen. But, as many of us will tell you, we thrive off of the stress and strive to fulfill our passion. We persevere through adversity on a daily basis by relying on one another to stay focused, level-headed and motivated. That’s what the team at Fox 5 gave me, and I will never be able to thank them enough for helping me get through the rollercoaster of experiences that come with this industry. With that said, I am turning now to a new chapter in my life. I have been offered an amazing opportunity to produce for NBC 7 here in San Diego. I’m excited to continue growing as both an individual and a journalist, and can’t wait to embark on this new ride. ❤️ taken in FOX 5 San Diego by @harmony.bates

She went by many names over the years, but to me she was always Grandma Maya. Although, she wasn’t your typical grandma. Constantly chasing after absolute volition, my grandmother lived life to the fullest; setting off on journeys some may only dream of. From acting alongside Hollywood stars, go-go dancing at clubs on the Vegas strip, to being a newscaster in some of the biggest markets — she did it all. My grandmother’s determination inspired many, and I am grateful to say I am apart of that crowd. Her energy filled every room, and while the world may continue turning… it truly will not be the same without her here. I will forever cherish the moments we shared, and will miss her laughter and spirit deeply. I hope I can make her proud during the unpredictably finite time we all have on this Earth. In time, the pain of her passing will dull, but the memories we made will last a lifetime. Until we meet again… I love you Grandma Maya. ❤️ by @harmony.bates
